The 2019 Chick-fil-A Peach bowl pits the Oklahoma Sooners against the LSU Tigers in what is expected to be a shootout. Whoever wins here will advance to the National Championship game so emotions are likely to be high in the Mercedes-Benz Stadium on Saturday.
The last time these two teams met was all the way back in 2004 where LSU came out on top with a final score of 21-14.
Oklahoma Sooners
The Oklahoma Sooners have had a great season finishing 12-1 overall, but they did face their trials and tribulations as well. Those tribulations started in week 8 with a trip to Kansas for a matchup with the Wildcats where they failed to establish the run and were sloppy in possession turning the ball over twice.
A furious comeback attempt in the 4th quarter could not save them from dropping their first game of the season that day, and seriously denting their chances of making the college football playoff. After that loss many would have thought that the Sooners chances of the playoff was over and the term floating around campus after week out would’ve been ”win-out”.
The very next weekend the Sooners survived a 20-0 4th quarter comeback attempt by the Iowa State Cyclones to win 42-41 to keep their playoff hopes alive. Oklahoma carried that momentum into their next 4 games and did manage to win-out to earn themselves a chance at winning a National Championship in the 4 seed.

The Sooners are nearly two touchdown underdogs here, but they will have some belief they can come out on top here with Jalen Hurts suiting up for Oklahoma. Hurts has been outstanding this year and is a deserved Heisman finalist, as he amassed nearly 5000 yards between his throwing and rushing yards and also combined for 50 total touchdowns.
Look for Hurts to go to CeeDee Lamb here early and often, as these two have hooked up for big plays all year and there is not reason to believe that changes here. Lamb has certainly benefited from Hurts’ excellent year as he has also eclipsed the 1000 yard mark and took it to the house 14 times.
No doubt, based on what Hurts has shown so far this year, he has the ability to put this team on his back and lead them to the National Championship game.
LSU Tigers
The LSU Tigers have finished the 2019 campaign with a perfect record, and have been a ton of fun to watch in the process. This team had scares here and there throughout the season, but when watching the Tigers you always kind of thought they would come through in the end.
That’s a pretty easy feeling to have when this team is littered with NFL caliber talent starting with Joe Burrow who passed for nearly 5000 yards and had an incredible 48-6 TD-INT ratio to go along with the second best QBR in the country.
Helping him achieve those great numbers was his number one target Ja’Marr Chase who turned his 73 receptions into 1498 yard and 18 scores and should play a big part in the Peach Bowl this Saturday.

The LSU Tigers also look like they have yet another NFL ready running back on their hands in Clyde Edwards-Helaire who totaled almost 1700 all purpose yards and got into the end zone 17 times. He also figures to play a big role in this one, especially since LSU are 13 point favorites and may lean on the run if they take a lead.
NCAA Football Handicapping Trends
- Sooners are 1-5 ATS in their last 6 games overall.
- Tigers are 5-0 ATS in their last 5 vs. Big 12.
- Tigers are 7-2 ATS vs. a team with a winning record.
Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl NCAA Football Pick
LSU are a far better team then the Sooners and I could see this one getting ugly for Oklahoma. LSU will have a ton of time to prepare for Hurts and I think they will have enough to at least limit him here. The LSU offense will over match a pretty poor Sooners defense and I see them covering the 13 here.
