Osborne has protected possession more effectively, while Edwards has produced slightly more passing touchdowns. Both quarterbacks have demonstrated the ability to challenge opposing secondaries. Connecticut must protect Osborne against North Carolina’s pressure. The Tar Heels need Edwards to recognize coverage quickly and avoid costly mistakes.
North Carolina Tar Heels vs. Connecticut Huskies bottom line: North Carolina has the stronger road record, but Connecticut’s offensive production makes this a dangerous assignment for the favored Tar Heels.

Tar Heels Huskies Free Pick: Over 54.5
Here is my Tar Heels Huskies free pick: I’m betting Over 54.5. North Carolina is laying seven points on the road, but I’m more interested in the scoreboard than trusting the Tar Heels to cover. Both teams have enough offensive ability to make this total vulnerable. UConn has scored at least 20 points in each of its last five games, and North Carolina has allowed 30 or more in three of its last four. That’s a combination I can work with, especially when the Huskies are getting a full touchdown at home.
Neither defense has earned the right to be trusted with a comfortable lead, and I’m not pretending otherwise.
The number isn’t a giveaway, but it doesn’t demand a ridiculous shootout either. A 31-27 finish cashes, and that’s well within reach if both teams capitalize on their opportunities.
What I like most is the possibility of late scoring. A close game keeps both offenses aggressive, while a North Carolina lead could force Connecticut to push the football rather than settle for field position. I’m expecting enough back-and-forth action to keep the scoreboard moving into the fourth quarter.
No need to get cute with the side.
My money is on Over 54.5.
