The Houston Cougars were solid last time out against USF and overall they have been quite good, but sit with a 3-3 record due to their quality of competition with losses to the Bearcats and BYU.
Once again the SMU Mustangs have one of the more exciting offenses in their division and they have ridden that to a solid 7-2 record. They do need to bounceback here, however, as they are coming off of a pretty brutal loss to Tulsa 28-24.
Houston Cougars
The Cougars demolished USF in terms of overall offense last week gaining over 500 yards of total offense and QB Clayton Tune once again racked up plenty of stats both throwing and running. He should be in a good position here to once again have success, as although SMU is a solid team, the defense is not exactly the strength of their team.
It is tough to point out any individual skill position player on offense for the Cougars, as they tend to spread the ball out quite a bit, but I would look at Marquez Stevenson to have a big one here just based on his big play ability which he has plenty of.
SMU Mustangs
The Mustangs lost by 4 points to Tulsa last week in what was a weird game because the high-flying SMU offense was unable to put a single point on the board in the entire second half. The Mustangs had over a 95% win probability in that game and it certainly is more than a little worrying that they could not score any points in the second half of that game especially now that they will face a real challenge with the Houston Cougars this Saturday.
QB Shane Buechele has been great, for almost his entire SMU career, and I am more than willing to forget about one bad half against Tulsa. So I can see Buechele and this entire SMU team bouncing back and for me, likely get the job done here against the Cougars.
