2026 NCAAF Handicapping – Boston College Eagles vs Duke Blue Devils
Here’s why I’m backing an OVER bet below in my Eagles Blue Devils free pick & gambling prediction for this matchup.
Eagles vs. Blue Devils Gameday
Saturday, October 31, 2026, brings the Boston College Eagles and Duke Blue Devils together at Wallace Wade Stadium in Durham. This Week 9 ACC matchup kicks off at 12:00 PM ET on The CW, with both teams looking to climb the conference standings.
Boston College enters at 4-3 overall and 2-2 in ACC play, including a 1-2 road record. Bill O’Brien’s Eagles have won 2 straight and finally appear to be finding some offensive rhythm.
Boston College is heating up, but Duke’s defense isn’t exactly handing out free points.
The Eagles are coming off a 49-27 win at Georgia Tech, their highest-scoring performance against a Power Four opponent under O’Brien. It was also their first road win of the season.
Duke stands at 5-2 overall and 2-2 in conference play, with a 3-1 home record. Manny Diaz’s Blue Devils snapped a 2-game losing streak with a hard-fought 19-16 win at Virginia.
Both teams enter Saturday with momentum, although they’ve taken different routes to get here. Boston College has found its offense, while Duke continues leaning heavily on its defense.
Neither team can afford another conference setback with November approaching. This should be a physical matchup between 2 programs still looking to establish themselves in the ACC race.
It’s Week 9, Boston College Eagles vs. Duke Blue Devils, hopefully we get a great matchup.

Boston College Eagles vs. Duke Blue Devils Odds & Previous Games
Duke opens as a 7-point favorite with a -271 moneyline, while Boston College comes back at +221. The opening over/under sits at 47.5 points, putting an interesting number on 2 teams with contrasting strengths.
Boston College is 3-2 over its L5 games, beating Pittsburgh 27-21 and Maine 22-16 before its latest win. The Eagles also dropped conference games to SMU 25-16 and Virginia Tech 21-14.
Duke has also gone 3-2 in its L5, including losses to North Carolina 24-20 and Georgia Tech 28-25. Earlier wins over William & Mary 62-7 and Stanford 35-7 showed what the Blue Devils can do when their offense gets rolling.
The recent head-to-head history is split. Boston College handled Duke 26-6 in 2020 before the Blue Devils returned the favor with a 38-31 win at Alumni Stadium in 2022.
That most recent meeting produced 69 combined points, although Saturday’s matchup features considerably different personnel. Four years is a long time in college football, especially with today’s transfer portal.
The Blue Devils have home-field advantage and the stronger defensive numbers. Boston College arrives with renewed confidence, making that 7-point spread worth a closer look.

Blue Devils Stats
Duke has scored 209 points through 7 games, averaging 29.9 PPG. The Blue Devils have a balanced offense, although their production has cooled considerably against tougher conference opponents.
The rushing attack has generated 1,328 yards, averaging 189.7 YPG. Sophomore Nate Sheppard leads the charge with 875 rushing yards and has become one of the ACC’s most dangerous offensive weapons.
Defensively, Duke has allowed only 112 points, an average of 16.0 PPG. The Blue Devils have recorded 18 sacks and recovered 5 fumbles, giving opposing offenses plenty to worry about.
Duke’s defense has been doing the heavy lifting, and the offense hasn’t always returned the favor.
Sheppard has earned multiple midseason All-America honors for his production. He’s also dangerous as a receiver, making him considerably more than a traditional between-the-tackles running back.
Duke’s defense has been particularly effective on third down, holding opponents to a 29.2% conversion rate. That’s a major reason the Blue Devils have stayed competitive even when their offense struggles.
The challenge Saturday is maintaining that defensive discipline against a mobile QB and an improving rushing attack. Duke cannot afford to lose containment and give Boston College easy opportunities outside the pocket.
Eagles Stats
Boston College has scored 171 points this season, averaging 24.4 PPG. The Eagles generate 375.7 total YPG, with their ground attack becoming an increasingly important part of the offense.
They average 181.0 rushing YPG, ranking among the ACC’s better rushing teams. Against Georgia Tech, Boston College exploded for 399 rushing yards and 5 rushing TDs.
Running back Bo MacCormack III delivered 155 yards and 3 TDs in that performance. His emergence gives O’Brien another dependable option for moving the chains.
Defensively, the Eagles have surrendered 165 points, averaging 23.6 PPG. They’ve allowed 333.3 total YPG, although their ability to create turnovers has helped offset some inconsistent stretches.
Boston College leads the ACC with 13 takeaways, including 10 interceptions. Defensive back Charlie Comella has accounted for 4 picks, giving the Eagles a legitimate ball hawk in the secondary.
That turnover production could be important against a Duke offense that prefers staying ahead of the chains. Giving the Blue Devils short fields would make an already difficult road assignment considerably tougher.
The Eagles also have some depth concerns, particularly in their offensive backfield. Their ability to maintain a productive rotation will matter against Duke’s physical defensive front.
Eagles vs. Blue Devils QB Matchup
Walker Eget has handled Duke’s starting QB duties this season, completing 122 of 197 passes for 1,440 yards and 8 TDs. He’s averaging 205.7 passing YPG, providing the Blue Devils with a capable option when they need to move the football through the air.
Eget has also thrown 3 interceptions, generally protecting possession without taking unnecessary chances. His reported hand issue remains worth monitoring ahead of kickoff, although his participation against Virginia was encouraging.
The Blue Devils need Eget to keep the offense balanced rather than force everything through their rushing attack. When Duke becomes predictable, opposing defenses can crowd the line and make every first down a chore.
Boston College counters with Mason McKenzie, who has thrown for 1,363 yards and 8 TDs. His 7 interceptions remain a concern, particularly against a defense capable of generating pressure.
McKenzie brings another dimension with his legs, leading the Eagles with 614 rushing yards. His 170-yard rushing performance against Georgia Tech demonstrated how dangerous he becomes when defenses lose containment.
That mobility creates a difficult assignment for Duke’s linebackers. They must respect McKenzie’s ability to escape while remaining disciplined against designed runs and passing plays.

Eget has the advantage of playing behind a more established defensive unit, which can reduce the pressure on Duke’s offense. McKenzie has shown more explosive rushing ability, although that comes with greater responsibility to protect the football.
Both QBs have the tools to influence this matchup, but their decisions under pressure will be critical. Neither coaching staff wants to spend Saturday explaining why a careless turnover changed the game.
Boston College Eagles vs. Duke Blue Devils bottom line: McKenzie’s mobility challenges Duke’s disciplined defense, while Eget must deliver enough offense to keep the Blue Devils in control.

Eagles Blue Devils Free Pick: Over 47.5
Here is my Eagles Blue Devils free pick: I’m backing Over 47.5. Boston College has gone over in 19 of its L29 games as an underdog, and I like the Eagles’ chances of contributing enough points to make Duke work for this win.
Duke has the stronger defense, but that doesn’t automatically make the under a smart bet. The Blue Devils can score, and Boston College has enough offensive punch to keep them from sitting on a comfortable lead.
I’m not asking for an offensive masterpiece, just 2 teams willing to finish their drives.
At 47.5, a 27-21 final gets us paid. That’s a reasonable scoring path without needing overtime, defensive TDs or some fourth-quarter miracle.
The danger is Duke slowing everything down and turning this into a possession battle.
I don’t see BC cooperating for 4 quarters, especially if the Eagles find themselves chasing points.
I’m betting on a competitive game with enough scoring from both sidelines.
Give me the Over 47.5.
