2026 NCAAF Handicapping – Kansas Jayhawks vs TCU Horned Frogs
Here’s why I’m backing an UNDER bet below in my Jayhawks Horned Frogs free pick & gambling prediction for this matchup.
Jayhawks vs. Horned Frogs Gameday
The Kansas Jayhawks visit the TCU Horned Frogs on Saturday, October 31, 2026, for a Week 9 Big 12 matchup at Amon G. Carter Stadium in Fort Worth. Kickoff is scheduled for 3:30 PM ET on FS1.
Both teams enter at 3-4 overall and 1-3 in conference play. Kansas is 0-3 on the road, while TCU is 2-3 at home.
Two struggling Big 12 teams, one badly needed win, and neither can afford another mistake-filled afternoon.
Lance Leipold’s Jayhawks are coming off a 25-24 win over Baylor. Kansas needed a blocked field goal in the closing seconds to preserve that result.
TCU dropped a 24-20 decision to West Virginia. Sonny Dykes’ Horned Frogs have now lost 3 straight, and their margin for error is getting awfully thin.
The Jayhawks have struggled to put together complete performances, especially away from home. TCU has been competitive lately but keeps finding ways to lose close games.
The Horned Frogs won the previous meeting 38-27 in 2024. They’ve taken 5 straight against Kansas and lead the all-time series 27-9-4.
Both teams still have bowl eligibility within reach, but another conference loss makes that climb steeper. Saturday is an opportunity to stop the slide before November arrives.
It’s Week 9, Kansas Jayhawks vs. TCU Horned Frogs, hopefully we get a great matchup.

Kansas Jayhawks vs. TCU Horned Frogs Odds & Previous Games
TCU opened as a 6-point favorite with a -218 moneyline, while Kansas returned +180. The total is 46.5 points, giving bettors a relatively modest number for a Big 12 matchup.
Kansas is 2-3 over its L5, beating Baylor 25-24 and Middle Tennessee 55-0. The Jayhawks lost to Kansas State 35-24, Utah 41-24 and Arizona State 24-17.
TCU is also 2-3 over its L5, defeating Baylor 17-6 and Arkansas State 31-7. The Horned Frogs fell to West Virginia 24-20, BYU 17-10 and UCF 21-13.
The teams’ previous 3 meetings ended 38-27, 38-31 and 31-28 in TCU’s favor. Kansas last won this matchup in 2018, when the Jayhawks escaped with a 27-26 decision.
TCU has struggled to turn competitive games into wins. Kansas has shown more offensive life at times, but its road results haven’t inspired much confidence.
The Horned Frogs have the home-field advantage and the stronger recent history in this matchup. Whether that’s worth laying 6 points is another question.

Horned Frogs Stats
TCU has scored 164 points through 7 games, averaging 23.4 PPG. The Horned Frogs have generated 2,066 passing yards but only 812 rushing yards, leaving their offense heavily dependent on throwing the football.
Jeremy Payne leads the backfield with 429 rushing yards and 2 TDs. His availability bears watching after injury concerns surfaced during the week.
Ed Small leads the receiving corps with 38 catches for 514 yards. Kari Ashley and Jordan Dwyer have also provided valuable production in the passing game.
TCU has struggled to turn offensive yardage into enough scoring. That’s a frustrating combination when the defense keeps giving the offense opportunities.
Defensively, the Horned Frogs have allowed 97 points, averaging 13.9 PPG. They’ve recorded 4 interceptions and recovered 5 fumbles.
The defense allows 264.3 total YPG and has been effective on third down. Opponents haven’t found many easy yards against this group.
Koron Hayward leads the pass rush with 4.5 sacks and 5.5 tackles for loss. His ability to disrupt plays could make a difference against Kansas.
TCU needs its offense to reward those defensive efforts. Asking the defense to carry the entire afternoon hasn’t exactly been a winning formula.
Jayhawks Stats
Kansas has scored 217 points through 7 games, averaging 31.0 PPG. The Jayhawks have rushed for 1,462 yards, giving them one of the more productive ground attacks in the Big 12.
Dylan Edwards leads the backfield with 532 rushing yards and 4 TDs. His speed gives Kansas an explosive threat whenever he finds an opening.
The Jayhawks have generated 445.4 total YPG. They’ve moved the football effectively, although that production hasn’t always translated into wins.
Defensively, Kansas has allowed 168 points, averaging 24.0 PPG. The Jayhawks have recovered 5 fumbles and recorded 2 interceptions.
The defense has been inconsistent, particularly against stronger competition. Kansas needs more reliable tackling and fewer explosive plays allowed.
Linebacker Trey Lathan leads the team with 48 tackles. His ability to make stops near the line of scrimmage will be important against TCU.
Injuries have affected the Jayhawks’ depth, with Justin Thurman among the players sidelined. Kansas needs its available contributors to deliver in another physical conference matchup.
Jayhawks vs. Horned Frogs QB Matchup
Jaden Craig leads TCU with 2,066 passing yards, 11 TDs and 6 interceptions through 7 games. He’s attempted 240 passes, making the Horned Frogs one of the conference’s more pass-heavy teams.
Craig threw for 372 yards against West Virginia but also lost a late fumble that ended TCU’s final opportunity. He can move the football, although protecting possession remains a concern.
The Harvard transfer has the arm strength to challenge defenses downfield. He needs better decisions when opponents generate pressure.
TCU relies heavily on Craig to sustain drives. Without consistent rushing support, opponents can concentrate on disrupting his passing rhythm.
Kansas counters with Isaiah Marshall, who has thrown for 1,506 yards, 11 TDs and 7 interceptions. He’s completed 105 of 196 attempts through 7 games.
Marshall threw for 212 yards and 2 TDs against Baylor but was intercepted twice. Those mistakes become particularly costly against a defense capable of controlling field position.
Marshall also brings mobility to the position, allowing Kansas to extend plays when protection breaks down. His decisions on third down will be important.

Cole Ballard has seen limited action behind Marshall. Kansas has relied on Marshall to handle most of its passing responsibilities.
Craig has the advantage in passing production, while Marshall benefits from a stronger rushing attack. Both QBs need to avoid unnecessary risks against defenses capable of forcing mistakes.
Kansas Jayhawks vs. TCU Horned Frogs bottom line: TCU brings the stronger defense, while Kansas needs its ground attack and Marshall’s decision-making to keep the Jayhawks competitive in Fort Worth.

Jayhawks Horned Frogs Free Pick: Under 46.5
Here is my Jayhawks Horned Frogs free pick: I’m backing Under 46.5. TCU is favored by 6, and I expect the Horned Frogs to make Kansas earn every point rather than get dragged into a shootout.
TCU has struggled to finish drives, which matters when we’re dealing with a total this low. Moving between the 20s looks great on a stat sheet, but sportsbooks don’t pay out for empty yards.
Passing yards are nice, but they don’t put points on the board by themselves.
Kansas can lean on its ground game to keep possessions moving and the clock running. That approach gives the Jayhawks a chance to stay competitive without needing to trade TDs all afternoon.
My concern is a couple of turnovers handing either offense a short field.
If both teams protect the football reasonably well, I don’t see enough sustained scoring to push this game into the 50s.
Give me a physical Big 12 game with more field position than fireworks.
I’m keeping this one simple and betting Under 46.5.
