Here’s why I’m backing an UNDER bet below in my Wildcats Buffaloes free pick & gambling prediction for this matchup.
Wildcats vs. Buffaloes Gameday
The Kansas State Wildcats visit the Colorado Buffaloes on Saturday, October 31, 2026, for a Week 9 Big 12 matchup at Folsom Field in Boulder. Kickoff is scheduled for 2:00 PM ET on TNT.
Kansas State enters at 4-3 overall, including an 0-2 road record. The Wildcats are coming off a 28-17 loss at Arizona State and still haven’t found a way to win away from home.
Kansas State has owned the recent series, but winning in Boulder without its starting QB is another matter.
Colorado is 2-5 and has dropped 5 straight games. Deion Sanders’ Buffaloes are 0-4 in Big 12 play after a 57-24 loss to Oklahoma State.
The Wildcats have won the previous 2 meetings, including a 24-14 victory in 2025. Colorado hasn’t beaten Kansas State since the schools resumed their rivalry in 2024.
Both teams are desperate for a conference win, although Kansas State has the better overall record. With injuries complicating the Wildcats’ QB situation, Colorado has an opportunity to end its losing streak at home.
It’s Week 9, Kansas State Wildcats vs. Colorado Buffaloes, hopefully we get a great matchup.

Kansas State Wildcats vs. Colorado Buffaloes Odds & Previous Games
Kansas State opened as a 2.5-point favorite with a -137 moneyline, while Colorado returned +114. The total is 47.5 points, with the Wildcats entering as narrow road favorites despite their QB problems.
Kansas State is 2-3 over its L5, beating Kansas 35-24 and Tulane 31-20. The Wildcats lost to Houston 35-16 and Cincinnati 31-26, with their offense struggling to maintain consistency.
Colorado has lost 5 straight, including setbacks against Utah 27-24, Texas Tech 29-7 and Baylor 23-13. The Buffaloes also fell 41-7 at Northwestern, and their defense has taken plenty of punishment.
The Wildcats won 31-28 in Boulder in 2024, extending their recent success against Colorado. Both meetings since the Buffaloes returned to the Big 12 have gone Kansas State’s way.
Colorado leads the all-time series 45-22-1. That history won’t help much Saturday, although the Buffaloes have an opportunity to reverse their recent fortunes.
The Wildcats have the better record, but their injury problems have complicated this matchup. Colorado needs to take advantage of those circumstances rather than give away another winnable game.

Buffaloes Stats
Colorado has scored 141 points through 7 games, averaging 20.1 PPG. The Buffaloes have generated 1,866 passing yards, but their ground attack has struggled with just 907 rushing yards.
JaQuail Smith leads the backfield, although Colorado has struggled to establish a consistent running game. That puts additional pressure on an already inconsistent offense.
Defensively, the Buffaloes have surrendered 211 points, averaging 30.1 PPG. They’ve recorded 18 sacks, 4 interceptions and 3 fumble recoveries.
Colorado can pressure opposing QBs, but keeping opponents off the scoreboard has been another story.
The pass rush has shown promise, but defensive breakdowns continue to hurt Colorado. Allowing big plays has made it difficult to get off the field.
Joseph Williams leads the receiving corps with 643 yards and 5 TDs. He’s been Colorado’s most dependable offensive weapon and a threat downfield.
Injuries remain a concern, with receivers Kam Perry and Danny Scudero dealing with availability questions. Defensive end Sam Gadie and RB Micah Welch have also appeared on the injury report.
The Buffaloes need better execution on both sides of the football. Their defense cannot keep giving opponents easy scoring opportunities.
Wildcats Stats
Kansas State has scored 230 points through 7 games, averaging 32.9 PPG. The Wildcats have generated 1,543 passing yards and 1,545 rushing yards, giving them a productive ground attack despite inconsistent results.
Rodney Fields Jr. has rushed for 422 yards and 5 TDs, while Joe Jackson has added 371 yards and 2 TDs. Those backs will carry more responsibility with the QB position unsettled.
Defensively, Kansas State has allowed 148 points, averaging 21.1 PPG.
The Wildcats have recorded 17 sacks, 3 fumble recoveries and 1 interception.
The pass rush has been effective, but the lack of interceptions has limited Kansas State’s ability to create extra possessions. Against Colorado’s turnover-prone passing game, that presents an opportunity.
Jaron Tibbs leads the receiving corps with 34 catches for 325 yards and 4 TDs. His production provides a dependable target for whoever starts at QB.
The Wildcats are 2-3 in their L5, including a 35-24 win over Kansas and a 28-17 loss at Arizona State. Their offense has shown potential, but injuries now make consistency a bigger challenge.
Wildcats vs. Buffaloes QB Matchup
Isaac Wilson has taken over Colorado’s starting QB duties, throwing for 979 yards, 6 TDs and 7 interceptions in 5 appearances. He’s attempted 128 passes, but turnovers have been a recurring problem.
Wilson has started Colorado’s previous 3 games. He’ll need better decisions against a Kansas State defense capable of generating pressure.
Julian Lewis has thrown for 733 yards, 6 TDs and 2 interceptions on 95 attempts. He’s unavailable for Saturday, leaving Wilson as Colorado’s established starter.
Kansas State faces a much bigger QB problem. Avery Johnson has been ruled out after throwing for 1,301 yards, 10 TDs and 3 interceptions in 6 games.
Johnson missed the Arizona State game, ending his streak of 32 consecutive starts. His absence removes an experienced passer and a major rushing threat from the Wildcats’ offense.
Jacob Knuth started against Arizona State and has thrown for 201 yards and 1 TD this season. He’s now doubtful with an ankle injury, putting Kansas State’s depth to the test.
Blake Barnett is available and could make his first career start. Dillon Duff is another option, although the Wildcats haven’t confirmed who will take the opening snap.

Colorado has the advantage in QB continuity, but Wilson’s interceptions remain a concern. Kansas State must simplify its offense enough to protect an inexperienced replacement without becoming completely predictable.
The Wildcats’ running backs should help ease that burden. Still, Colorado can make life difficult by forcing Kansas State into obvious passing situations.
Kansas State Wildcats vs. Colorado Buffaloes bottom line: Colorado has the more settled QB situation, while Kansas State needs its rushing attack and defense to compensate for major injuries under center.

Wildcats Buffaloes Free Pick: Under 47.5
Here is my Wildcats Buffaloes free pick: I’m taking Under 47.5. Colorado’s offense has struggled to produce points, and Kansas State doesn’t need a shootout to take care of business.
The Wildcats can establish their running game, work the clock and make Colorado earn every possession. That’s the kind of approach I want when backing a total below 50.
Colorado has enough trouble scoring without being asked to carry its share of a shootout.
Kansas State has also been inconsistent offensively, so I’m not expecting the Wildcats to run away with this. If Colorado falls behind early, its passing game could be forced into mistakes rather than a comeback.
The danger is a defensive TD or a couple of turnovers creating short fields. Otherwise, this looks like a game where sustained drives matter more than explosive plays.
I’m expecting a physical contest with limited scoring opportunities. No need to get cute with this number. Under 47.5.
