2026 NCAAF Handicapping – Northwestern Wildcats vs Oregon Ducks
Here’s why I’m backing the bet below in my Wildcats Ducks free pick & gambling prediction for this matchup.
Wildcats vs. Ducks Gameday
The No. 20 Northwestern Wildcats visit the Oregon Ducks on Saturday, October 31, 2026, for a Week 9 Big Ten matchup at Autzen Stadium in Eugene. Kickoff is scheduled for 3:30 PM ET on Peacock.
Northwestern enters at 6-1 overall, with a 1-1 road record. David Braun’s Wildcats have won 4 straight and are enjoying one of their strongest starts in years.
Northwestern brings the momentum, but Oregon isn’t accustomed to playing second fiddle in its own stadium.
The Wildcats are coming off a convincing 42-14 win over Rutgers. Their only loss came against Indiana, and they’ve responded with some impressive football.
Oregon is 4-3 overall and 3-1 at home. Dan Lanning’s Ducks are looking to recover from a 21-10 loss at Illinois.
Oregon has dropped 2 of its L3, with injuries creating problems on offense. Northwestern arrives with the better recent form, although Autzen remains a difficult place to win.
The Ducks won the previous meeting 34-14 in September 2025. Northwestern now gets another opportunity to challenge Oregon, this time on the road.
It’s Week 9, Northwestern Wildcats vs. Oregon Ducks, hopefully we get a great matchup.

Northwestern Wildcats vs. Oregon Ducks Odds & Previous Games
Oregon opened as a 3.5-point favorite with a -173 moneyline, while Northwestern returned +144. The total is 47.5 points, making the Ducks narrow favorites despite the Wildcats’ stronger record.
Northwestern is 4-1 over its L5, beating Rutgers 42-14, Michigan State 24-21, Ball State 45-14 and Penn State 34-13. The Wildcats’ lone loss during that stretch was a 29-23 setback against Indiana.
Oregon is 3-2 over its L5, including wins against Nebraska 17-14 and USC 41-27. The Ducks also lost to UCLA 17-15, showing how quickly their offense can disappear.
Last season’s meeting saw Oregon pull away for a 20-point win in Evanston. The Ducks controlled that matchup, but both teams enter Saturday under different circumstances.
Northwestern has been productive offensively during its winning streak. Oregon’s recent scoring troubles have made its games considerably tighter.
The Wildcats have the momentum, while the Ducks have home-field advantage. Something has to give Saturday afternoon.

Ducks Stats
Oregon has scored 232 points through 7 games, averaging 33.1 PPG. The Ducks have generated 1,944 passing yards and 1,018 rushing yards, relying heavily on their passing attack.
The ground game averages 145.4 YPG, with Jordon Davison among the primary contributors. Oregon needs better production on early downs to avoid predictable passing situations.
Defensively, the Ducks have allowed 145 points, averaging 20.7 PPG. They’ve recorded 16 sacks, 9 interceptions and 3 fumble recoveries.
Oregon’s defense has done its share, but the offense has been making life unnecessarily difficult lately.
The Ducks allow 127.9 rushing YPG, making their defensive front a strength. They’ll need that discipline against Northwestern’s productive ground attack.
Oregon’s passing production has suffered with Dante Moore sidelined by a concussion. The Ducks have also changed offensive play-callers, putting Jay Johnson in charge.
Receiver Jeremiah McClellan is another absence affecting the offense. Oregon needs its remaining playmakers to produce against a confident opponent.
Wildcats Stats
Northwestern has scored 243 points through 7 games, averaging 34.7 PPG. The Wildcats have rushed for 1,444 yards, providing the offensive balance behind their strong start.
Caleb Komolafe leads the backfield with 551 rushing yards and 5 TDs. His ability to move the chains has been a major asset.
Defensively, Northwestern has allowed 116 points, averaging 16.6 PPG. The Wildcats have recorded 8 interceptions and recovered 4 fumbles.
That defensive production has helped Northwestern control games without depending entirely on its offense. Opponents haven’t found many easy scoring opportunities.
Griffin Wilde leads the receiving corps with 615 yards and 4 TDs. He’s a dangerous option when defenses concentrate on stopping the run.
Northwestern has shown it can produce points through the air or on the ground. That versatility gives opposing defenses plenty to worry about.
Several defensive contributors have dealt with injuries, creating depth concerns. The Wildcats need a strong performance from their available personnel in Eugene.
Wildcats vs. Ducks QB Matchup
Dylan Raiola has thrown for 761 yards, 6 TDs and 2 interceptions in 5 appearances for Oregon. He’s completed 74 of 114 attempts, although consistency remains a concern.
Raiola started against Illinois, but Oregon has not confirmed its starter for Saturday. Brock Thomas remains another option after appearing in 3 games.
Thomas has thrown for 226 yards, 1 TD and 1 interception. His experience gives the Ducks another possibility if they decide to make a change.
Dante Moore remains unavailable after suffering a concussion against USC. He had thrown for 926 yards and 9 TDs without an interception before the injury.
Oregon needs better execution regardless of who starts. Holding the football too long against Northwestern’s defense could make another difficult afternoon.
Northwestern counters with Aidan Chiles, who has thrown for 1,617 yards, 12 TDs and just 1 interception. His efficiency has been a major reason for the Wildcats’ success.
Chiles also contributes with his legs, forcing defenses to account for his mobility. He’s shown patience when passing lanes disappear.

Nicco Marchiol has seen limited action behind Chiles, attempting just 1 pass. Northwestern has enjoyed much greater stability at QB.
Chiles has the advantage in passing production and experience within his current offense. Oregon needs whichever QB starts to make smart decisions and avoid giving Northwestern extra possessions.
Northwestern Wildcats vs. Oregon Ducks bottom line: Chiles gives the Wildcats the steadier passing attack, while Oregon needs a sharper offensive performance to protect its home field.
Northwestern Wildcats vs. Oregon Ducks Football Betting Trends
- Northwestern is 3-0 straight up in their last 3 games after a win.
- Also, the Wildcats are 13-7 against the spread in their last 20 games after a win.
- Northwestern is 4-1-1 on the over/under in their last 6 games as an underdog.
- Oregon is 25-2 straight up in their last 27 home games.
- Additionally, the Ducks are 8-0 straight up in their last 8 games after a loss.
- Oregon is 4-2 on the over/under in their last 6 games after a loss.
Wildcats Ducks Free Pick: Over 47.5
Here is my Wildcats Ducks free pick: I’m betting Over 47.5. Northwestern has the confidence to attack Oregon, and the Ducks are too talented to keep stumbling through games without putting up a fight.
Oregon has changed its offensive play-caller, and I expect a more aggressive approach at home. Shorter throws, quicker decisions and getting the ball into playmakers’ hands can take pressure off whoever starts at QB.
Oregon doesn’t need a miracle at QB to score points, just a game plan that makes some sense.
Northwestern should contribute its share, especially if the Wildcats establish an early lead. That would force Oregon to open things up rather than spend the afternoon playing conservative football.
The danger is Oregon getting bogged down offensively again. Still, 47.5 leaves room for both teams to reach the mid-20s without needing a wild fourth quarter.
I’m expecting a much better offensive response from the Ducks, with Northwestern making them work for every score. The number is within reach, and my play is Over 47.5.
