The Ball State Cardinals did not start out well this year with a week 1 loss to Miami-Ohio, but they certainly have a chance to finish 2020 with a bang, as they get a crack at the MAC conference championship game off of the back of a dramatic come from behind win last week against the Western Michigan Broncos.
The Buffalo Bulls have rolled in the MAC this year and have without a doubt have been the class of the Mid-American Conference and that is in no small part down to the play of Jaret Patterson who will look to continue his meteoric rise as the NFL takes notice.
Ball State Cardinals
At one point last week the Cardinals had a 4% chance of beating Western Michigan, so this team should be happy they made it here, as they were thoroughly out-played by the Broncos in that contest and will now need to find something that we have not seen from this team in order to contend with the Bulls on Friday.
If the Cardinals are going to get the job done here I firmly believe it will be because of the arm of Drew Plitt who has shown he can play at a high level and may pose a threat to this Bulls secondary, as he already has 1674 passing yards and a 13-5 in terms of a TD-INT ratio.
Buffalo Bulls
There are a lot of solid parts of this Buffalo Bulls team, but for me everything starts and stops with Jaret Patterson, who I do believe we will see in the NFL in the not so distant future. Kyle Vantrease likely won’t have a huge workload here, as this is a run first team and they are projected to lead this game for large parts, so they may not need to rely on his arm too much here.
One thing Vantrease will need to make sure does not happen is turnovers, as this is one of the few ways this Bulls team can lose this game, but he has shown an ability to keep the ball safe, so the Bulls should be able to avoid those critical turnovers.
NCAA Football Handicapping Trends
- Cardinals are 10-21 ATS in their last 31 games after allowing more than 200 yards rushing in their previous game.
- Cardinals are 2-5 ATS in their last 7 neutral site games.
- Bulls are 7-0 ATS in their last 7 games after accumulating less than 170 yards passing in their previous game.
- Bulls are 6-1 ATS in their last 7 games after accumulating more than 200 yards rushing in their previous game.
Free Week 16 NCAA Football Pick
The Buffalo Bulls will roll here in my opinion, as their rushing attack will be too tough and I think this Bulls team will be able to hit some big plays in the passing game, so for me the Cardinals will not be able to keep up and this Bulls team will cover the 13.5.
