Monday, February 28th. the Charlotte Hornets play the Milwaukee Bucks for the fourth and final time this season. Through three games the Hornets lead 2-1 with wins on January 8th (114-106) and 10th (103-99), while the Bucks won on December 1st (127-125).
Both teams have lost four of their last five matches. Charlotte walloped the Raptors in their first game back from the break but began a back-to-back set losing in overtime (126-127) to Detroit on Sunday, while the Bucks lost to the Nets 123-126 on Saturday.
Last season the clubs played three times with Charlotte winning two of the three contests. The Bucks hold the all-time record having bested the Hornets in 62 of their 121 matches
Charlotte Hornets
The Hornets begin the week clinging to the ninth seed having missed out on opportunities to overtake the seeds above them with a record of 2-8 through their last 10 games.
Witness any of their games and they sure are fun to watch on offense with LaMelo pushing the pace on every possession and dropping lobs often accompanied by an under-the-leg assist.
The problem is this team seldom plays defense and even when they try to they don’t sustain it. On the rare occasion, they do it’s all the talk in the post-game media sessions.
But if this team ever wants to be taken seriously or push their way into the conversation as one of the best in the East James Borrego is going to have to convince them to play something other than the occasional zone defense.
Or perhaps it will fall upon the shoulders of Mitch Kupchak to make some offseason tweaks to trade one of their blue-chip youngsters in order to better balance the roster with two-way talents or even a defense-first specialist.
Milwaukee Bucks
Occasionally this season the Bucks arrive at a match where they have the look of a champion in their eyes and pummel their opponent but those moments haven’t been as predominant as past seasons.
That’s not to say this team isn’t committed to winning — they still have the guy who arguably hates losing more than anyone (Giannis) in the league.
If you caught him at the All-Star Game – that’s how he plays every possession. In years past you would see him get visibly upset when teammates didn’t bring that same level of intensity and losses occurred.
Winning a championship has quelled that side of his personality as he clearly demonstrated in a postgame session arriving with a bucket of wings saying ‘yeah we played for —-‘. Antetokounmpo knows now they have the goods to win a title and he’s not sweating the small stuff anymore.
That’s not to say they shouldn’t be concerned about their recent 1-4 stint but it followed an 8-2 run. In the past Giannis would risk everything to win every game, now he seems to recognize getting to April 11th with the team all healthy is far more important.
George Hill (neck) is questionable for Monday. Pat Connaughton (finger) and Brook Lopez (back) are out indefinitely.

Free Charlotte Hornets vs. Milwaukee Bucks NBA Prediction
Although I like the Bucks to win this match and expect the Hornets to charge out of the gate Milwaukee will ride the wave of the game never getting too high or too low and when Charlotte goes into their inevitable five to ten-minute gap of no defense the Bucks will simply take over and win.
A few factors to consider — all three games between the clubs have been decided by two to eight points. The Bucks have the rest advantage and the Hornets are an atrocious 1-10 in second games of back-to-backs albeit they required overtime on four occasions before succumbing.
So while the 10 point spread might seem too rich the 1-10 is hard to shake!
