Here’s why I’m backing a Buffalo ATS bet below in my Patriots Bills free pick & gambling prediction for this matchup.
Patriots vs. Bills Gameday
Week 4 sends the New England Patriots to the new Highmark Stadium for an AFC East matchup with the undefeated Buffalo Bills.
New England enters at 1-2 under Mike Vrabel after a miserable 35-6 road loss to Jacksonville. The Patriots have split their two home games but lost their only road appearance, and now the schedule isn’t exactly offering them a soft landing.
Buffalo is 3-0 in Joe Brady’s first season as head coach. The Bills opened with wins over Miami and Detroit before surviving five offensive turnovers in last week’s 24-16 victory over the Los Angeles Chargers.
That win wasn’t pretty, but undefeated teams are allowed to win ugly once in a while.
The Patriots now have to prove the Jacksonville performance was an outlier while dealing with a Buffalo offense that has scored 101 points through three games.
New England can’t afford another sloppy offensive afternoon against a Buffalo team averaging nearly 34 points.

New England Patriots vs. Buffalo Bills Odds & Last 5
The opening odds make Buffalo a 6.5-point home favorite, with the Bills priced at -320 on the moneyline and New England coming back at +258. The spread has Buffalo -6.5 at -116 and New England +6.5 at -105, while the total sits at 48.5.
There’s no mystery behind Buffalo laying nearly a TD.
New England just walked out of Jacksonville after a 35-6 loss in which Drake Maye threw two interceptions and lost a fumble.
Buffalo’s latest win was almost the opposite story. The Bills turned the ball over five times against the Chargers, didn’t take their first lead until the fourth quarter and still escaped 24-16 behind a defense that repeatedly limited the damage.
These teams split two meetings last season. New England won 23-20 in Buffalo before the Bills answered with a 35-31 victory later in the year, giving this division matchup a little more recent bite than the point spread might suggest.

Bills Stats From Last Week
Buffalo’s offense has produced 1,205 yards through three games, averaging 401.7 per contest while scoring a league-best 33.7 points per game.
Josh Allen has completed 56 of 86 passes for 786 yards, 5 TD’s and 2 interceptions. He’s added 114 rushing yards and 6 more TD’s, giving the Bills the kind of red-zone weapon that doesn’t need much introduction at this point.
James Cook has been every bit as important to Buffalo’s early offensive identity.
Cook has rushed for 346 yards on 58 carries, averaging 6 yards per attempt with 2 TD’s. He erupted for 154 yards against the Chargers, including the late TD that helped Buffalo finally put the game away.
The Bills have 465 rushing yards through three games, with Allen and Cook accounting for most of that production. Dalton Kincaid leads the receiving group with 263 yards, while DJ Moore has 167 and Keon Coleman has 101.
Buffalo’s defense also bailed out the offense repeatedly last Sunday. Los Angeles started with favorable field position after several turnovers, but the Bills kept forcing FG’s and produced a critical C.J. Gardner-Johnson interception near the goal line.
There are injuries to monitor before Sunday.
Christian Benford, Keon Coleman, Joe Andreessen and T.J. Sanders did not practice Wednesday. DJ Moore, Damar Hamlin and Deone Walker were limited, so Buffalo’s early success hasn’t come without a few dents.
Patriots Stats From Last Week
New England’s offense has generated 921 yards through three games, averaging 307 per contest, but last week’s trip to Jacksonville exposed the bigger problem.
The Patriots moved the football at times and still finished with only six points.
Drake Maye went 14-of-25 for 199 yards with two interceptions against the Jaguars and also lost a fumble. Through three games, he has thrown for 585 yards with 1 TD and 6 interceptions.
New England’s defense has been the steadier unit through the opening three weeks. The Patriots have allowed 51 points overall, although Jacksonville did considerable damage after the offense repeatedly put the defense in difficult situations.
The injury list isn’t helping.
A.J. Brown remains on injured reserve and won’t be available against Buffalo. Christian Barmore, Christian Gonzalez and Morgan Moses all missed Wednesday’s practice, while Dre’Mont Jones was among several limited participants.
Maye was listed with a right shoulder issue but practiced fully Wednesday. That matters with Buffalo’s Greg Rousseau already sitting at 6 sacks through three games and capable of making a shaky pocket considerably less comfortable.
Patriots vs. Bills QB Matchup
Josh Allen has opened the season completing 65.1 percent of his throws.
Those numbers only tell half the story.
Allen’s ability as a runner forces New England to account for the QB on every critical short-yardage snap.
Maye comes into Buffalo trying to settle down after a rough afternoon in Jacksonville.
Ball security is the obvious priority against an opponent that can punish short fields quickly.

New England can’t simply put Maye in a shell, either. Buffalo’s scoring ability creates pressure to generate explosive plays, and the Patriots have to find that balance without giving the Bills extra possessions.
That’s where the QB gap becomes especially important.
Allen can beat New England from structure, on the ground or when a play breaks down. Maye doesn’t need to match him highlight for highlight, but he does need to make Buffalo earn its points instead of donating possessions along the way.
New England Patriots vs. Buffalo Bills bottom line: Maye has to clean up the turnovers quickly because Allen and Buffalo have too many ways to turn extra possessions into separation.
New England Patriots vs. Buffalo Bills Football Betting Trends
- The Patriots have a 6-2 record in their last 8 regular season away games.

- Also, the Patriots have covered the spread in 5 of their last 8 regular season away games.
- The Bills have won 8 of their last 9 regular season games when favored.
- Additionally, the Bills have covered the spread in their last 4 regular season games as favorites.
- The Bills have a 3-0 record in their last 3 regular season home games.
Patriots Bills Free Pick: Bills -6.5
Here is my Patriots Bills free pick: I’m laying Bills -6.5. Buffalo is averaging 33.7 points per game, and that scoring pressure matters against a New England offense coming off a six-point afternoon in Jacksonville.
The Patriots can’t afford another turnover-heavy performance from Drake Maye here. Buffalo survived five giveaways against the Chargers and still won by eight, which says plenty about how many different ways this team can beat you. James Cook and Josh Allen also give the Bills a ground-game advantage that can wear on New England if Buffalo gets ahead.
New England needs a cleaner game from Maye just to keep Buffalo from controlling the script.
The Bills don’t need perfection to create margin, and last week proved it.
At home with the better running game, the more dangerous QB and several paths to points, I’ll lay the number with Bills -6.5.
