Ben Simmons, PHI (@ NYK), $8.7 DK, $8.8k FD
There are a number of elite guards in play on Thursday, and many of them have solid matchups. Damian Lillard, maybe the hottest point guard in the game right now, has a Cleveland Cavaliers squad that struggles on the point-preventing side of the floor. Chris Paul and James Harden have a Clippers team that qualifies as a fringe-playoff squad at best.
There may not be a better option, however, than Ben Simmons. The guard/forward/triple-double machine is going up against a New York Knicks squad that is tanking as well as anyone in the aftermath of Kristaps Porzingis’ torn ACL—not to mention, they’re just 22nd in DFS defense against players at Simmons’ position.
Darren Collison (@ IND) $4.6k DK, $4.6k FD
In the interest of finding value picks after you select Simmons, Darren Collison offers high upside compared to his cost against the Indiana Pacers.
On the year, Collison is averaging 27.1 FPTS per contest. Nobody else on Thursday averages close to that at a sub-$5k cost, and you have to jump up to Eric Gordon to find the next 27-plus FPTSPG scorer at an even $5k.
Joe Ingles, UTAH (vs PHX), $6.4k DK, $6.6k FD
A good rule of thumb in DFS is to find at least one opponent of the Suns whenever Phoenix plays. On the year, the team in the desert is dead last in defensive efficiency and second in pace.
That’s an excellent combination for DFS opponents, and while Joe Ingles may typically play at Utah’s slog pace, he has a chance to do some serious damage on Thursday—especially from behind the arc if we end up with a shootout.
Pau Gasol, SAS (vs NOLA), $5.8k DK, $5.6k FD
With LaMarcus Aldridge almost certainly commanding the attention of Anthony Davis, Pau Gasol becomes a strong option at the forward or center position. Nikola Mirotic isn’t going to do much when it comes to stopping Gasol from scoring or coming down with rebounds, but the risk is this pick comes from the notion that the contest could become a one-on-one stats battle between AD and LMA.
Dwight Howard, CHA (@ ATL) $8.5k DK, $8.5k FD
Dwight Howard’s having a quiet but surprisingly good year. Going up against a team of Atlanta’s caliber would be reason enough to invest in him on Thursday, but the fact that this is versus his former team and in his former arena makes him an easy choice.
In three showdowns this season, Howard is posting 19.3 points, 14 rebounds and 2.7 while shooting 62.5 percent on 10.7 field-goal attempts.
- OUT: Jimmy Butler, MIN, G/F [UPGRADES: Andrew Wiggins, Karl-Anthony Towns]
- OUT: Kawhi Leonard, SAS, F/C [UPGRADES: Kyle Anderson, LaMarcus Aldridge]
One last thing. Remember… at the end of the day if you can’t afford to gamble online OR play at Draft Kings and Fan Duel then STOP. We know most DFS players need action, heck we do too, so just bet what you can afford.
Don’t go chasing money in high dollar GPP’s. Stick to cash games, and try to play on bigger slates. Avoid those night time 2 games slates. Your bankroll will thank us later.
