Centers
Nathan MacKinnon – COL @ (EDM) — $8.3K DraftKings /$17K FantasyDraft
With all the injuries the Avalanche have seen to their top players — MacKinnon has continued to dominate games all on his own. With both Gabriel Landeskog and Mikko Rantanen out, MacKinnon has carried the Avalanche to one of the best records in the NHL.
He’s produced 8 points in his last 5 games (3G/5A). He’s also put up a ridiculous average of over 6 SOG a game in that same span. When he’s on the ice — and he’s on the ice a lot — playing nearly 20 minutes each game, he’s creating a ton of offensive opportunities.
In 3 games against Edmonton last season, MacKinnon put up 5 points (1G/4A) — the Av’s will continue to count on him to push the offense as they await the return of their star wingers back to the lineup.
Nick Schmaltz – ARZ @ (MIN) — $4.7K DraftKings /$9.3K FantasyDraft
The surprising Coyotes have been playing very well recently — knocking off the last two Stanley Cup Champions in Washington and St Louis in their last 2 games. Part of their excellent play has been shifting offensively-gifted center, Nick Schmaltz, to the top line with Phil Kessel and Christian Dvorak.
Schmaltz has seen his ice time slowly rise as the season goes on — he’s averaging almost 18 minutes in his last 5 games and seeing top unit PP timer with Arizona. He’s a great option and comes at a relative bargain considering how well he and the Coyotes have been playing. He’ll face a Minnesota team still struggling with poor goal tending — letting in 3.5 goals against a game.
Wingers
Leon Draisaitl – EDM vs (COL) — $7.8K DraftKings /$15.9K FantasyDraft
The talk in Edmonton will always revolve around Connor McDavid — but Leon Draisaitl is clearly making a case for becoming one of the most dynamic and well rounded players in the NHL.
The big German has been off to a great start to the season — leading the Oilers in points with 36 (15G/21A) in 20 games on the season. He also leads all Edmonton forwards in ice time, with over 23 minutes a night — a number that is also #1 amongst all forwards in the NHL.
In what should be a fast paced game against the Avalanche, Draisaitl is in a great spot and well worth paying up for tonight.
Alex Iafallo – LAK vs (DET) — $3.6K DraftKings /$7.2K FantasyDraft
With the Kings recently letting Ilya Kovalchuk know that he will no longer be inserted into their line up — it’s going to open up ice time for winger Alex Iaffallo, who’s been placed on both the Kings top line and top power play unit.
The 3rd year forward has put up 7 points in 18 games for LA this season and getting a good amount of ice time at over 17 minutes a game — he’s also seeing a majority of his zone starts originating in the offensive end.
Detroit is last in the NHL with a GAA of 3.75. Look for the Kings to create plenty of chances — Iafallo is a great play if you’re in need of some salary cap relief.
Defense
Dougie Hamilton – CAR @ (BUF) — $6.8K DraftKings /$13.7K FantasyDraft
After the off season trade of Justin Faulk to St. Louis, Hamilton has stepped up for Carolina and has played some very inspired hockey so far this season. He’s 2nd among NHL defensemen in points with 19 (8G/11A) in 18 games, sitting just behind the Caps’ John Carlson.
Hamilton and the Canes’ will face a Buffalo team that is returning to North America after participating last week in the NHL’s Global Series in Europe — they should hopefully be able to take advantage of a tired team.
Carolina has been one of the top scoring teams in the NHL — putting up an average of 3.3 goals for a game. They also own a top 10 power play, converting on over 22% of their opportunities.
Also Consider – Ethan Bear – EDM vs (COL)
The young defenseman has become an important piece of Edmonton’s improved defensive play. He’s playing almost 22 minutes a night in all situations. In his last 5 games, he’s contributed with 2 assists, 11 SOG and 8 blocked shots. His price point is great and should be able to deliver some fantasy value with peripheral stats.
Goalies
Darcy Kuemper (Probable) – ARZ @ (MIN) — $7.7K DraftKings /$15.9K FantasyDraft
It’s a bit of a challenge selecting a goaltender tonight that won’t leave you second guessing your choice. I’m going to roll with the Coyotes and Kuemper. He’s been very good on the season — and as previously mentioned, Arizona’s team defensive play has vastly improved from a season ago.
Even with the return of Antti Raanta, Kuemper has continued to see the majority of starts for the Coyotes. In 13 starts on the year, he’s 8-5 with 1 SO to go along with an impressive GAA of 1.99 and fantastic SV% of .931.
Arizona will face a Wild team that is 2nd last in the NHL with SOG, with just over 28 a game — they also sit bottom ten with goals for. This is a great match up for Kuemper and the Coyotes, who’ve allowed the 2nd least amount of goals against in the NHL.
