Centers
Auston Matthews – TOR vs (SJ) — $7.7K DraftKings /$16.3K FantasyDraft
After calling himself and his teammates out after the Leafs last game against divisional rival Boston, I fully expect Matthews to come up with a big game.
In the one game against the Sharks last season he notched a goal and 2 assists to go along 5 shots on goal. He leads the Leafs with 8 goals and 43 shots on goal this season.
With Leafs captain John Tavares still out, Matthews has seen more ice time with the offensively gifted play making winger Mitch Marner on the top line — a move that should provide him with more scoring chances.
Elias Pettersson – VAN vs (WAS) — $5.4K DraftKings /$10.9K FantasyDraft
Petterson was in fine form to finish off the Canucks recent road trip, he finished the 4 game road trip with 5 points. The talented center in his second year has picked up where he left off last season – he’s posted 10 points in 9 games this year.
He’s formed great chemistry with new Canuck J.T Miller and Brock Boeser on the Canucks second line. The trio each have a Corsi rating of 60%+ to rank 1-2-3 on the team.
Pettersson should be able to take advantage of a tired Capitals team coming into Vancouver for the 2nd game of a back to back on the road.
Wingers
Evander Kane – SJ @ (TOR) — $7K DraftKings /$14.5K FantasyDraft
After starting the season on the NHL’s suspension list, Kane put up 6 points on the first 4 games of the season. He’s since cooled off and gone pointless in his last two.
Toronto has been giving up a ton of shots against, and are bottom in the league with 38 goals allowed.
Kane is a high volume shooter. He and line mate Tomas Hertl will see plenty of chances against shaky Leafs defense.
Sam Reinhart – BUF @ (DET) — $5.5K DraftKings /$11.1K FantasyDraft
The Wings are looking more like what most fans thought they would after a good start to the season. After going 3-1 to start the year, they’ve now lost 6 games in a row. In 5 of those 6 games they let in 5 goals.
Reinhart and the Sabres on the other hand look like they are for real as they continue their great start to the season.
He’s priced well. I like that he’s on the top line with Jack Eichel and super rookie Victor Olofsson, forming one of the most productive NHL lines.
As mentioned, the Wings are having all sorts of problems defensively, ranked near the bottom of the NHL with both goals and shots allowed.
Defense
Rasmus Dahlin – BUF @ (DET) — $7.8K DraftKings /$10.7K FantasyDraft
Dahlin is in a great spot tonight. 10 points in 10 games, against one of the worse defensive teams in the league.
He’s getting 20 + minutes of ice time each game and seeing top unit power play duties with the Buffalo as well.
The Sabres are ranked 3rd in the league with a power play converting on over 30% of their chances. The Wings sit bottom 5 on the penalty kill so far this year.
Also Consider – Filip Hronek: A bright spot on a struggling Wings team – 2 points in his last 2 games. 20+ minutes a night, 2nd PP unit. A cheap option with decent upside.
Goalies
Tomas Griess (Probable) — NYI vs (OTT) — $8.2K DraftKings /$16.4K FantasyDraft
Under Barry Trotz, the Islanders have become one of the most defensively responsible teams the last 2 seasons.
They once again sit at the top in goals allowed, with just 20 in 8 games. While their shots allowed per game is higher than Trotz would like, they are still finding ways to keep the puck out.
Griess has had a solid start to the season. In 4 games, he’s put 3 wins, with GA of 2.21 and a .930SV%. He’s in a good spot against a Sens’ team averaging just 2.4 goals for a game.
