Game six between the eighth-seeded New Orleans Pelicans and top-seeded Phoenix Suns tips off on Thursday, April 28th. Phoenix leads the series 3-2 victories in the opening game (110-99), Game 3 (114-111), and pivotal Game 5 (112-97) while the Pelicans took Game 2 (125-114) and Game 4 (118-103).
The Suns won the regular-season series 3-1 with wins on November 2nd (112-100), January 4th (123-110), and March 15th (131-115) while the Pelicans won the February 25th (117-102) match.
The Suns hold the advantage all-time winning 36 of the 68 matches versus the Pelicans and this is the first time the teams will meet in the postseason.
Phoenix Suns
Without Devin Booker, the Suns haven’t looked as impenetrable as they did during the season. Game 5 was an important win for Phoenix to grab but if the series sticks to its pattern this will be a victory for the Pelicans.
Mikal Bridges was the star in Game 5 with 31 points, five rebounds, two assists, a steal, and four blocks while handling the hardest defensive assignment covering Brandon Ingram.
Chris Paul served up a double-double of 22 points and 11 assists along with six rebounds, and three steals but the veteran point guard hasn’t strung together back-to-back strong performances in this series – – YET.
Deandre Ayton offered 19 points and nine rebounds while Cameron Payne (12) was the other double-figure contributor.
Aside from Bridges who shot 4 of 4 from the perimeter the Suns’ starters shot 2 of 16 from deep which is an area they’ll be looking to clean up in Game 6.
Booker (hamstring) is out indefinitely while Dario Saric (knee) remains out with no definitive return date.
New Orleans Pelicans
Brandon Ingram continues to shine although this past game wasn’t his best as he offered 22 points, five rebounds, and five assists but shot 7 of 19.
CJ McCollum registered 21 points, eight rebounds, five assists, and two blocks but shot an inefficient 7 of 22.
Big man Jonas Valanciunas got the better of Ayton posting a double-double of 17 points and 14 rebounds.
Rookie Jose Alvarado was the only other Pelican to score in double figures with 12 points as he and his fellow rookie Herb Jones continue to be the x-factors in this series.
Zion Williamson (foot) is out indefinitely. Kira Lewis Jr. (ACL) is lost for the season.
