03-18-17 | Canucks v. Oilers -1.5 | Top | 0-2 | Win | 113 | 9 h 46 m | Show |
This is a 10* play on the Edmonton Oilers.
The Oilers have won their last two games by a combined score of 14-5. They will host a struggling Canucks team tonight that has conceded a whopping 19 goals while losing five straight. Vancouver's last three losses were in games decided by more than one goal, and with their backup goalie going tonight, another lopsided loss seems likely. Richard Bachman will get the start in Edmonton tonight, and it's just his second appearance this season. "If we had Markstrom here, (Miller) wouldn't be playing as much, for sure," said Desjardins. "But he's played good, we've had time between games. I think a lot of starters would go through with that schedule ... you look at (Montreal starter Carey) Price, you look at those guys, they play that all the time." The Canucks could have trouble getting up for a game like this late in the year when they know they will be golfing in a few weeks. Take EDM. GL, Jesse Schule |
|||||||
03-17-17 | Stars v. Flames -1.5 | 1-3 | Win | 150 | 11 h 36 m | Show
This is an 8* play on the Calgary Flames.
The Dallas Stars played last night in Vancouver, defeating the Canucks by a score of 4-2. That snapped a three game losing streak, and one of those losses was a 7-1 defeat in Edmonton. They are back in Alberta tonight to face the Flames, and I think a similar result awaits. Here is what I said prior to their game versus the Oilers: "The Dallas Stars, who are one of the league's worst defensive teams. In fact, only Colorado has allowed more goals than Dallas this season. The Stars have given up a whopping 10 goals while losing their last two games. Matters have only gotten worse for Dallas after trading a pair of veteran defensemen at the deadline" They lost forward Jaime Benn to an upper body injury last night, and he will not play in Calgary. The Flames have won 10 of their last 11 overall, and three of their last four wins came by more than one goal. Take CAL. GL, Jesse Schule |

02-07-17 | Canucks +1.5 v. Predators | 2-4 | Loss | -170 | 14 h 51 m | Show
This is an 8* play on the Vancouver Canucks +1.5.
The Nashville Predators have won eight of their last 12 games, but six of those eight wins came in games decided by just one goal. They host the Vancouver Canucks tonight, and five of the last six meetings between these two teams have been decided by only one goal, with each team winning 3-of-6 games. Three of those six games required overtime. The Canucks have a history of success in Nashville, winning 14 of their last 20 at the Music City. Both these teams are fighting for a playoff spot in the Western Conference, and we should see a strong effort from both sides. I like Vancouver's chances of snapping a three game losing streak here against a familiar opponent. Take VAN. GL, Jesse Schule |

12-31-16 | Canucks v. Oilers -1.5 | Top | 3-2 | Loss | -100 | 14 h 44 m | Show |
This is a 10* play on the Edmonton Oilers.
The Canucks have won back to back home games, but they play their second game in as many nights on the road in Edmonton on New Years Eve. This is a tough spot for Vancouver, and they face an Oilers team that has won four of it's last five. Edmonton has struggled to find consistent goaltending in previous seasons, but Cam Talbot has been sensational in 2016. The former New York Ranger has been particularly good against the Canucks, going 3-0-2 in five starts against them over the last two seasons. He stopped all 26 shots he faced in a shutout win over Vancouver earlier this season. The Canucks have dropped five of their last seven when playing the second game of a back-to-back, and they have last four of their last five when playing a third game in four nights. Take EDM. If anyone thinks for even a second that The Iceman's recent success is the product of "luck", "chance" or "coincidence"... THINK AGAIN! - March 2013: 89-60 +$10,549 The Flames are coming off a demoralizing 8-3 loss at the Duck Pond last night, their 23rd consecutive loss in Anaheim. They are in another tough spot here tonight, playing the Kings in the second game of a back to back. The Ducks just passed the Kings to take over the top spot in the Pacific Division, and we'll see a team highly motivated to take back the division lead. |
|||||||
03-30-16 | Flames v. Ducks -1.5 | 3-8 | Win | 122 | 21 h 36 m | Show
This is a Free #NHL play on the Anaheim #Ducks -1.5. Ladies and gentlemen.. it's DEJA VU ALL OVER AGAINthis March. If anyone thinks for even a second that The Iceman's recent success is the product of "luck", "chance" or "coincidence"... THINK AGAIN! - March 2013: 89-60 +$10,549 We've all heard the expression: "In this world, nothing can be certain except for death and taxes". Well since 2004, the Calgary Flames can add to that list, as losing to the Ducks at the Duck Pond has been as sure as the fishes swim and birds do fly. Their historic losing streak at Anaheim has reached 22 consecutive losses spanning 12 seasons. This looks like a tough spot for the slumping Flames break that trend, as they play their first game of a back to back in California, before facing rivals Edmonton in the final edition of the Battle of Alberta in a nationally televised game on Saturday night. Take ANA. Jesse Schule |

12-16-15 | Penguins +1.5 v. Bruins | 0-3 | Loss | -215 | 18 h 9 m | Show
This is an 8* play on the Pittsburgh Penguins +1.5. The Pittsburgh Penguins dropped their first game with Mike Sullivan in charge as they lost 4-1 to the Capitals Monday. The Pens actually out-shot the Caps 45-34 though, and they've now won the shots in three straight contests. They're likely to be even better tonight in their second game under the new head coach. No one can deny the fact that Pittsburgh has some amazing offensive talent at its disposal, and a new voice on the bench could be all the players need to start performing up to par again. Evgeni Malkin has recorded 30 points in 26 career meetings with the Bruins and has scored in each of his last two games.The Bruins have been far from stellar this month with only three wins in seven games and a 1-1-1 record at home. They've struggled to cover the puckline home at TD Garden all season long, going 5-10 against the PL over 15 games in front of the home-town crowd.  Take PIT. GL, Jesse Schule |

|||||||
10-30-15 | Blue Jackets +1.5 v. Capitals | 1-2 | Win | 100 | 17 h 10 m | Show
This is an 8* play on the Columbus Blue Jackets. The Columbus Blue Jackets have recorded back-to-back wins at Colorado and New Jersey and they're eyeing yet anther win at Washington Friday night. You could say they're due for an upswing after starting the season with eight consecutive losses, and I think they'll keep this a close game at the very minimum. The Capitals had a five-game winning streak ended when they lost 3-1 to Pittsburgh Wednesday. Alex Ovechkin has gone two straight games without a goal and will face a red hot Sergei Bobrovsky who stopped 39 shots in a 3-2 overtime win at Washington last December. The Caps power play have gone stale after showing an incredible effiency over the first few games, and they're just 2-for-12 on the man advantage over their last four. Columbus has been without its All-Star forward Ryan Johansen in its last two games, but he returned to practice Thursday and is likely to take the ice with the rest of the Blue Jackets tonight. The Blue Jackets are good at building on the momentum from a win and they're 13-3 in their last 16 games following a win. The Caps are likely to be in for a much tougher game than they expect here. Take CBJ. GL, Jesse Schule |
|||||||
10-29-15 | Ducks +1.5 v. Blues | Top | 1-2 | Win | 100 | 16 h 9 m | Show |
This is an 8* play on the Anaheim Ducks +1.5. The Anaheim Ducks will hope to wrap up their five-game road trip on a positive note after losing each of the first four. They have just one win for the season but this should be a good time to face the St. Louis Blues. St. Louis has plenty of injuries with Patrik Berglund (shoulder), Jaden Schwartz (ankle), Kevin Shattenkirk (lower body) and Paul Stastny (foot) all set to miss the game. It ended a two-game skid with a 2-0 win against Tampa Bay Tuesday but lost the shots 24-26. An underperming power play unit that has gone 0-for-11 over the last three games must be a concern for coach Ken Hitchcock. Goals on the man advantage won't come easy tonight either as they'll face an Anaheim penalty kill that has a 88.9% success rate this season. The Ducks struggles have come on the other end of the ice, both on the power play and 5v5. Each of the two last defeats have been one-goal losses though, to Chicago and Dallas, and they actually out-shot the Blackhawks 39-24 in the 1-0 overtime loss on Oct.24. The Ducks have won five of the last six head-to-head meetings, and they have way too good of a team to struggle for much longer. My money is on the Ducks to kickstart their season this very evening. Take ANA. GL, Jesse Schule |

04-04-15 | Buffalo Sabres v. NY Islanders -1.5 | 0-3 | Win | 100 | 11 h 12 m | Show
This is a 5* play on the NYI -1.5. The Sabres narrowly escaped disaster at home against Chicago last night, as they scored a pair of third period goals putting them ahead 3-2. It's no secret that it's in Buffalo's best interest to finish last in the NHL standings, securing one of the top two draft picks. The fact that Chicago scored twice in less than a minute, scoring the game winner with just 56 seconds remaining is more than just a little suspicious. GL, Jesse Schule. |
|||||||
04-03-15 | Chicago Blackhawks -1.5 v. Buffalo Sabres | Top | 4-3 | Loss | -100 | 17 h 29 m | Show |
This is a 10* play on the Chicago Blackhawks. The Buffalo Sabres have won back to back games, which would sound like a good thing for most teams. It might not be the best news for Sabres fans though, as they now trail Arizona by just two points in the standings. The Sabres and the Coyotes are the two worst teams in the league, and they are both looking at rebuilding through the draft. When the Coyotes played at Buffalo last week, fans cheered the visitors, and celebrated when Arizona scored the winning goal in overtime. There is no question that the #1 priority for Buffalo is securing the top pick in this year's draft, and that goal could be in serious jeopardy if they were to win at home versus Chicago tonight. The Hawks meanwhile are battling Nashville for the top spot in the Central Division. Take CHI. GL, Jesse Schule |

03-28-15 | Ottawa Senators v. Toronto Maple Leafs +1.5 | 3-4 | Win | 100 | 18 h 50 m | Show
This is an 8* play on the Toronto Maple Leafs +1.5. This is not a fun time to be a member of the Toronto Maple Leafs. The team is under heavy scrutiny from fans and media as they face the prospect of rebuilding a team that was expected to compete with start players like Phil Kessel and James Van-Riemsdyk. It wasn’t so long ago that the Senators appeared to be in exactly the same situation, but then stepped in Andrew Hammond. When Ottawa promoted their third string goaltender after injuries to #1 Anderson and #2 Lehner, they went on a 14-1-1 run that has put them back in the playoff picture. Stellar goaltending from Hammond appears to be the main reason for their success, as he was 14-0-1 with a 1.91 GAA during that run. The only loss came when Craig Anderson allowed three goals on 22 shots in a 3-1 home defeat to Boston. Hammond was injured in a win over the Sharks on Monday, and he then surrendered five goals on 22 shots in a loss to the Rangers on Thursday. His status is unclear heading into this marquee match-up versus the Leafs, and we could see Anderson back between the pipes. Don’t expect this game to be a cakewalk for the Sens, no matter who is in goal. The Leafs aren’t going to roll out the red carpet and then lay down in a nationally televised game (Hockey Night in Canada). The only thing more satisfying to the Maple Leafs than a win over the Sens, would be a win over Montreal. Toronto actually has a winning record at home, yet they are an enormous underdog here. I’ll take the home dog on the puckline in a game that is sure to be close. Take TOR. GL, Jesse Schule |

03-16-15 | Arizona Coyotes v. Los Angeles Kings -1.5 | Top | 0-1 | Loss | -110 | 21 h 27 m | Show |
This is an 8* play on the LAK. The Kings appeared to be in line for another win on Saturday, but they couldn't hold on to a third period lead, surrendering two goals in 66 seconds in a 2-1 loss to Nashville. The loss was a costly one, as they've slipped into the ninth spot in the Western Conference, just one point back of eighth place Winnipeg. The Kings simply can not afford to come away with anything less than two points tonight as they host one of the bottom feeders of the league. The Coyotes have lost 14 of their last 15 overall, and 10 of those losses came by two or more goals. Goaltending has been a real sore spot for Arizona, as Mike Smith is just 11-34-5 with a 3.24 GAA this season. He was lit up for four goals on 29 shots in a 4-1 loss to the Devils in his most recent outing. Arizona has lost four straight trips to the Staples Center, and they've surrendered 18 goals in those four games. Take LAK -1.5. GL, Jesse Schule |

03-05-15 | Toronto Maple Leafs v. Tampa Bay Lightning -1.5 | Top | 2-4 | Win | 115 | 20 h 40 m | Show |
This is a 10* play on the Tampa Bay Lightning -1.5. The Maple Leafs defeated the Panthers 3-2 two days ago, but I think they're up for a tougher challenge tonight as they're staying in Florida for a game against the Lightning. The hosts have won four of the last five meetings in Tampa, and I think they're in big performance tonight. The Lightning have won four of their last six games, covering the puckline in each win. They have shut out their opponent in both their last two games at Amalie Arena and are a dominant 24-6-1 there for the season. Andrei Vasilevskiy was in net against the Sabres Tuesday but we're likely to see Ben Bishop back between the pipes for this match-up. Toronto has won three of its last five games but has struggled on the penalty kill for quite some time now. It has allowed a goal on 10 of its last 32 shorthanded situations, and that could spell trouble against the Lighting who have gone 6-for-19 on the man advantage over their last five games. The Maple Leafs have lost 12 of their last 13 visiting a team with a winning record while the Lighting are 6-1 in their last seven at home versus a team with a road winning % of less than .400. Take TB -1.5. GL, Jesse Schule |
|||||||
03-05-15 | Calgary Flames +1.5 v. Boston Bruins | 4-3 | Win | 100 | 19 h 11 m | Show
This is an 8* play on the Calgary Flames +1.5. The Flames ended Boston's five game dominance in this series with a 4-3 win on home ice earlier in the season. We should be in for another close contest tonight as the teams are taking the ice at TD Garden. The visitors are 3-3-1 over their last seven games with all but two being decided by one single goal. This will be the fifth stop on a seven game road trip and they played some excellent D over the first four, allowing only six goals total. Karri Ramo has been in net for all of those games and is confirmed to get the start tonight as well. Boston has followed a six game skid up by winning three of their last four. It is off a 4-1 win against the lowly Arizona Coyotes but had lost three straight at home prior and has lost five of its last six against teams with a winning record. Points are crucial for both teams, but particularly for the Flames who are tied on points for third in the Pacific Division with the Kings and the Sharks. Don't be worried if the they leave it late, the Flames are leading the NHL with their 1.22 goals in third periods and this is a team that never say die.  Take CGY. GL, Jesse Schule |

03-01-15 | Columbus Blue Jackets v. Pittsburgh Penguins -1.5 | Top | 3-5 | Win | 115 | 7 h 23 m | Show |
This is a 10* play on the Pittsburgh Penguins -1.5.  The Blue Jackets are off five consecutive losses over which they've covered the puckline only once. Tonight's match-up won't be an easy one either as they visit the Pens who have won three straight, outscoring their opponents 13-6. The Pens are also coming in here with revenge on their mind after losing the first two meetings of the season. They've won eight of the last 13 match-ups at the CONSOL Energy Center though and can turn to their star netminder Marc-Andre Fleury to tend the net. The Blue Jackets are not quite as lucky as Sergei Bobrovsky has missed 16 straight games due to a groin injury. He could be back in net here, but might need a couple of games to get back at his best again.  Whoever is between the sticks for the visitors will have his work cut out for him. The Pens offense ranks among the best in the NHL and averages 2.97 goals per game on home ice. They've scored a goal on the man advantage in three straight games while Columbus has failed to convert on any of its last 20 power-play opportunities. Evegni Malkin is off a three assist performance in the 4-3 win at Washington Wednesday and has eight points over his last four games.  Take PIT -1.5.  GL,  Jesse Schule |

This is a 10* play on the Vancouver Canucks -1.5. The Canucks will look to bounce back from consecutive losses at home tonight against the cellar dwelling Sabres. Buffalo is playing on back to back nights, and it's third game in four nights. They've lost 13 straight and they've been shutout eight times so far this season. Miller is 23-11-1 with a 2.33 GAA on the season, and as far as matchups go, it doesn't get any better than this. At the other end we have Jhonas Enroth, who has posted a 4.66 GAA losing eight straight starts. "I think we need to stay positive and just keep approaching every game like we're going to win the game," said Enroth. "We can't go into every game thinking we're going to lose the game. We have to stay positive and still believe that we can win games." The Sabres own the worst record in the league with only 14 wins, and 10 of those wins have come at home. Buffalo has lost six of it's last eight road games by two or more goals. Take VAN -1.5 GL, Jesse Schule |

This is a 10* play on the Boston Bruins -1.5. The Sabres showed a flash of competitiveness winning four in a row at home between December 9-15. They're now coming off backto- 5-1 losses though and the TD Garden is not the ideal place to visit if you want to snap a losing streak. Especially not considering how the Sabres have been doing on the road lately. They've dropped three straight away from home getting outscored 13-3. They've won only four of 14 road games all season, which is also the amount of wins they've amassed over the last 14 meetings in Boston. The Bruins offense has been slumping lately but this should be a great spot to get the goalscoring back on track. Jhonas Enroth conceded four goals on 22 shots last night and the visitors might be inclined to give Michal Neuvirth his third start this month. He has allowed eight goals over the previous two, and is 1-5 with a 3.68 GAA over six starts on the road this season. The Bruins have won both meetings so far this season by a combined goal differential of 7-2. Take BOS. GL, Jesse Schule |

This is a 7* play on the Vancouver Canucks +1.5. The Canucks are looking to bounce back from a 6-3 loss to the Stars in Dallas on Tuesday, as they head to St. Louis to take on the Blues tonight. This is a good spot for the visitors, as the Blues have several players sidelined with a flu virus. "Our health is not great right now," Ken Hitchcock said. "We're just seeing who can play and who can't play, and seeing what we can get out of the next two games. Five or six guys on the team, they have a bacterial ailment and we're seeing who it pops up with. We are in a very fluid situation right now." The Blues were shutout in a 3-0 loss at Anaheim on Sunday, with two of the Ducks three goals coming on the power-play. Vancouver took all three meetings in this series last year, and Eddie Lack posted a 0.97 GAA in those games. He played well in relief of Miller in the loss to Dallas, sparking a rally that saw the Canucks get the better of the stars in the final two periods of that game. The top line continued to produce points, with Radim Vrbata scoring his fourth goal of the season assisted by Henrik and Daniel. They've been hot since coming together in the pre-season, and they get a crack at the Blues backup goalie Jake Allen tonight. The 24 year old is making just his second starts of the season. He's allowed six goals on 50 shots while going 1-1 versus the Canucks in his career. Take VAN. GL, Jesse Schule |
