Cam Newton -1/2 (-180) vs. Peyton Manning +1/2 (+150)
The Pick: Cam Newton -1/2 Passing Touchdowns
Right off the bat, I want to say that, unfortunately, this prop doesn’t have the best juice available on the board. However, given the choices available, Newton is far and away the better pick.
I see Cam Newton throwing for at least two touchdowns and Peyton Manning throwing for no more than one. Again, this isn’t the best value prop available on the board, but Newton is the pick in this spot.
I hate being with the consensus, but I think the Panthers roll all over the Broncos. The Panthers have a defense that is built like the Seattle Seahawks and we all know what the Seahawks did to the Broncos two years ago.
Manning struggled all day and managed just one touchdown. I see him having roughly the same game this year against the Panthers.
Plus, just look at how well the Panthers have played on the offensive side. This is a complete team and Newton will want to stamp his mark by having a fantastic Super Bowl.
I would recommend finding maybe Newton to throw for -1.5 more touchdowns than Manning if the juice is in the -110 range. That would be the better bet.
However, if you want some better choices taking Manning to throw less than 1.5 touchdowns is currently at +110. Like I say, I don’t see Manning throwing for more than one touchdown.
If we want a sneaky value pick, taking Newton to break the Super Bowl rushing record for a quarterback is an interesting pick. The record is held by Steve McNair as he ran for 64 yards in Super Bowl XXXIV, which is a lot, but this is Cam Newton we are talking about.
Plus, the Broncos defense may be vulnerable to some big gains by Newton. Demarcus Ware and Von Miller are going to pin their ears back and get after Newton.
Eventually, Newton will just step up in the pocket and run for some yards. He does that 8-10 times and the record could very well be his. Also, the juice on that is +275. That’s a fantastic value play.
All in all, you can’t go wrong with taking Newton over Manning in whatever props you decide to bet on.
