The biggest game of the NFL season is finally here and this game is looking to be another Super Bowl classic between the Philadelphia Eagles and Kansas City Chiefs.
The last time these two teams faced off was back in 2021 and it was the Eagles that secured the victory.
Kansas City Chiefs
The Kansas City Chiefs currently sit with a 16-3 record overall and they have gone 6-12-1. There weren’t many who had a lot of faith in this team against the Cincinnati Bengals, even at home, but they were able to step up behind a strong game from Patrick Mahomes and they were able to secure the victory.
What’s more, Mahomes completed 29 of his 43 passes for 326 yards and two touchdowns. There was concern about his ankle, but he seemed to play well with it, and find success.
So far in the playoffs the Chiefs are averaging 25 points while their defense is giving up 20 points per game. In both games they haven’t looked exactly dominated, but they have won and that’s all that really matters in the playoffs.
Chiefs Injuries
The Chiefs are dealing with some key injuries heading into this game. Mecole Hardman has been played on the IR, and the team has activated Clyde Edwards-Helaire.
Willy Gay is also dealing with a shoulder injury and he’s questionable for this game. Mahomes is still dealing with the ankle injury, but with the extra week off, I would expect he’s going to be pretty healthy heading into this game.
Philadelphia Eagles
On the other side of this matchup is the Philadelphia Eagles who sit with a 16-3 record and they have gone 10-9 against the spread. While the Chiefs have had to fight to get to this point, the Eagles have dominated so far. In the Divisional Round the Chiefs beat the New York Giants 38-7 and in the last game against the San Francisco 49ers, they were also able to win 31-7.
For one thing, they got a bit of a gift with Brock Purdy getting hurt, but the Eagles offense still looked good. Subsequently, Jalen Hurts completed 15 of his 25 passes for 121 yards. He also rushed 11 times for 42 yards and two touchdowns.
Without doubt the defense has been good in the playoffs but they can’t just assume the Eagles are going to struggle like the Giants and 49ers did. The Eagles need to keep Mahomes in the pocket to find success in this game.
Eagles Injuries
By and large, the Eagles are pretty healthy heading into this game. Lane Johnson is dealing with a groin injury but it’s expected that he’s going to be able to go in this game. If for some reason Johnson isn’t going to be able to go, that would be a big loss for the Eagles.
