Let’s take a look in Ray Monohan’s Week 17 NFL Power Rankings.
1. New England Patriots (12-3)
– Last Week: 1
There’s nothing wrong with getting a little help from the officials once in a while. The Patriots needed a little more assistance than they probably should have, but that was a divisional matchup against a notoriously tough opponent that they won’t have to worry about facing again this season. And Rob Gronkowski escape healthy despite some pre-game threats, so that’s big for them.
2. Pittsburgh Steelers (12-3)
– Last Week: 2
The Steelers have had issues with lesser opponents this season, particularly on the road, so it was nice to see them go into Houston and lay a beat down on the Texans.

The team didn’t have to worry about overlooking a lesser opponent on Monday in their first game of the season without Antonio Brown. The other players on the team stepped up in a big way to ease the burden of his absence. And the first-round bye will afford Brown some extra time to heal up.
3. Minnesota Vikings (12-3)
– Last Week: 5
It may have only been against Brett Hundley and the banged up Packers offense, but the Vikings reminded everyone just how dominant they can be on defense by pitching a shutout in Green Bay. And the win moves them another step closer to a first round bye.
4. Los Angeles Rams (11-4)
– Last Week: 6
It would have been understandable if the Rams used last week’s win over the Seahawks as an excused to come out flat in Tennessee, but instead Los Angeles put together a solid effort, with Todd Gurley continuing to cement his place in the MVP discussion.
5. New Orleans Saints (11-4)
– Last Week: 8
The Saints are actually looking like a complete team, with the defense coming around and the defensive secondary establishing itself as one of the better units in the league thanks to the emergence of rookie Marshon Lattimore.

Then there’s the offense, which continues to run the ball effectively and dynamically. And for when the team finds itself in situations where it needs to throw the ball, Drew Brees is still under center.
6. Jacksonville Jaguars (10-5)
– Last Week: 4
It’s probably fair that the Jaguars dropped a game this past week. And it may even be a positive thing for them. The division’s locked up now, and this loss came as a good wake up call heading into the playoffs. The 49ers are streaking in the right direction behind Jimmy Garoppolo, so not as bad of a loss as it appears to be.
7. Carolina Panthers (11-4)
– Last Week: 7
The Panthers continue to overlook lesser opponents, and it’s tougher and tougher to predict which version of the team we’re going to see on a week-to-week basis. They’ll finish off the season in Atlanta, so there should be no shortage of motivation there.
8. Philadelphia Eagles (13-2)
– Last Week: 3
The final score of Monday nights Week 16 finale doesn’t really tell the whole story, as the Eagles and Raiders played to a tie through the first 59 minutes of a turnover-plagued game. The Eagles will play all of their NFC playoff games at home, but it’s tougher to trust Nick Foles after watching that one.
9. Kansas City Chiefs (9-6)
– Last Week: 10
The Chiefs seem to have figured things out, and are now into the playoffs for the fourth times in five seasons under Andy Reid. Their midseason swoon is now a distant memory. They’ll get their first playoff game at Arrowhead, which is a major advantage.
10. Atlanta Falcons (9-6)
– Last Week: 9
The Falcons are in the drivers’ seat for the final playoff spot in the NFC. They’ll host the Panthers on Sunday for that second wild-card berth, and a playoff-opening trip to face either the Saints or Rams. That Atlanta’s playoff path will take place primarily on the road is concerning.
