2027 College Football Playoff National Championship Odds
2027 College Football Playoff National Championship Odds have Notre Dame at +460, Ohio State at +470 and Georgia at +500 on the October 19 odds board from MyBookie. Miami follows at +600, with defending champion Indiana at +750. Further down the board, unbeaten BYU stands out at +4400, despite sitting second in the AP Top 25.
Miami is No. 1 in the October 19 AP poll, BYU is No. 2, and Ohio State ranks third after beating Indiana 19-15. Notre Dame and Georgia round out the top five, yet both have a loss. The rankings and the championship odds are telling two very different stories.
And Ohio State’s +470 comes with a quarterback question. Julian Sayin’s shoulder injury doesn’t disappear because the Buckeyes have a shiny ranking.
That’s an expensive way to practice optimism.
Senior Handicapper, CappersPicks.com
I’ve spent decades handicapping college football, and championship futures demand more patience than Saturday’s point spread. You’re buying an entire postseason run, including the team’s ability to qualify. I’ll sort through the favorites, examine the longer-priced contenders and tell you which numbers I’d consider putting money behind.

Odds updated: October 19, 2026. Championship odds and AP rankings are separate reference snapshots. Prices and availability may change by sportsbook.
The most interesting disconnect sits near the top of the AP poll. BYU is undefeated and ranked second but only tenth on the championship odds board.
Texas Tech is 6-0 and ranked eighth, yet its +4800 price places it outside the nine shortest-priced teams.
At +4400, BYU’s break-even championship probability is approximately 2.22%. Notre Dame at +460 needs to win more than 17.86% of the time to justify the price. Neither percentage tells us who wins in January. They tell us how demanding the odds are.
Rankings tell me who’s playing well. Championship odds tell me how much I’m being charged to believe it continues.
Recent College Football National Champions
Indiana’s championship last season showed that the usual powers don’t have exclusive ownership of the trophy. Getting into the playoff is one challenge.
Beating multiple quality opponents after that is where a championship ticket earns its money.

2027 College Football Playoff Odds: The Leading Contenders
Notre Dame +460 — An Expensive Favorite
Notre Dame’s 28-24 loss at BYU exposed problems finishing a tight game. CJ Carr gives the Irish a capable passing attack, but the November 7 matchup against Miami now carries greater importance for their postseason position.
The Irish are fourth in the AP poll and first in championship pricing. That’s a hefty bill for a team with a loss and another major test ahead.
I respect the talent. At +460, I’ll pass until Notre Dame earns that premium.
Ohio State +470 — The Sayin Question
Ohio State defeated Indiana 19-15 behind a defense capable of carrying the Buckeyes deep into January. Julian Sayin’s shoulder injury, however, introduces uncertainty at the most important offensive position.
Ryan Day has a championship-caliber roster. A healthy quarterback could make +470 reasonable, but I’m not paying that price while guessing how effective Sayin will be.
Georgia +500 — Turnovers Are Getting Expensive
Georgia’s 27-24 loss to Auburn followed its emotional victory over Alabama. Gunner Stockton committed three turnovers, and the Tigers gladly accepted the extra possessions. Generosity is admirable at Christmas, Kirby. Not in October.
The Bulldogs remain fifth in the AP poll and have enough talent to win the title. Stockton needs to stop giving opponents short fields before Georgia gets another dollar of mine.
Miami +600 — No. 1 Doesn’t Mean Automatic Value
Miami survived Florida State 43-35 in double overtime, with Darian Mensah providing the offensive firepower. The Hurricanes can score on anybody, but allowing 35 points to a struggling rival isn’t exactly championship-defense advertising. At +600, I’m being asked to trust that the secondary suddenly figures things out when the opponents get tougher.
Miami is undefeated, first in the AP poll and fourth in the odds. I understand the appeal.
I’ll take a rain check on the price.
Indiana +750 — Defending Champions Under Pressure
Indiana nearly knocked off Ohio State before Nick Marsh’s potential winning touchdown was ruled incomplete. Curt Cignetti’s defense remains formidable, but Josh Hoover’s shoulder issue complicates the offense.
The Hoosiers are sixth in the AP poll at 6-1. Defending the title is possible, although +750 leaves little room for uncertainty about the quarterback’s health.
Ole Miss +1500 — A Legitimate Alternative
Ole Miss handled Missouri 31-3, generating 498 yards while Trinidad Chambliss threw three touchdowns. The Rebels also controlled the game defensively, which matters when an explosive offense eventually meets an opponent capable of slowing it down.
At 5-1 and ranked seventh, Ole Miss deserves consideration. The trip to Texas should reveal whether the Rebels can maintain that level away from home.
+1500 makes my shortlist. I’d like one more strong road performance before buying.
2027 College Football Playoff Odds: Longer-Priced Contenders
BYU +4400 — My Preferred Longshot
BYU’s 28-24 win over Notre Dame demonstrated composure under pressure. Bear Bachmeier connected with Walker Lyons for the late touchdown, and the Cougars finished a game that could easily have slipped away.
Now look at the numbers. BYU is 6-0, ranked second in the AP poll and priced at +4400. The remaining Big 12 schedule, including Utah, still presents obstacles, but the Cougars have already shown they can beat a team priced as the national championship favorite.
That’s worth my attention.
I’d consider a modest BYU future at +4400. The price compensates for more uncertainty than the favorites’ numbers do, although BYU still needs to survive the conference race and the playoff.
Texas Tech +4800 — A Serious Big 12 Threat
Texas Tech improved to 6-0 by beating Arizona State 53-25. J’Koby Williams rushed for 165 yards and two touchdowns on 11 carries, giving the Red Raiders another way to punish defenses.
The Red Raiders are eighth in the AP poll, and +4800 deserves a look. I’m not automatically buying both Texas Tech and BYU, though.
They can both be strong teams without both futures being good bets at their current prices.
I’ll compare their remaining conference schedules before deciding which ticket offers the better path.
Tennessee +5500 — Defense Gives It a Chance
Tennessee’s 26-10 victory over Alabama featured four forced turnovers. The Volunteers showed they can win a physical game without needing an offensive shootout.
Ranked 11th at 6-1, Tennessee has earned a place on the watchlist. At +5500, I want another convincing showing against quality opposition before committing.
Utah +5800 — The Schedule Will Decide
Utah survived Colorado 27-24 and remains undefeated. The Utes are tenth in the AP poll, with Houston and BYU providing upcoming tests that should reveal whether they can control the Big 12 race.
There’s a plausible case at +5800. Those conference games will tell me considerably more than another comfortable win over an overmatched opponent.
UCLA +8400 — Defense First
UCLA remains unbeaten after beating Wisconsin 17-7. The Bruins are ninth in the AP poll and have shown they can control games defensively, even without impressive offensive totals.
That’s encouraging for playoff qualification. Winning several January games against elite offenses is another assignment entirely.
UCLA stays on my watchlist at +8400.
Alabama +1350 — The Price Still Looks Short
Alabama has lost consecutive games against Georgia and Tennessee. Four turnovers against the Volunteers helped produce a miserable 10-point offensive showing.
Apparently, the Crimson Tide didn’t get the memo that possessing the football is usually helpful.
Alabama has fallen to 13th in the AP poll at 5-2. There’s talent in Tuscaloosa, but the offense needs to show something beyond its recruiting rankings before +1350 interests me.
Texas +2200 — Talent Isn’t the Problem
Texas has dropped consecutive games to Oklahoma and Florida, with Arch Manning throwing for 173 yards against the Gators. The Longhorns have enough talent to beat quality opponents, yet the passing attack keeps making ordinary defensive pressure look like an unsolvable puzzle. Ole Miss comes to Austin next, and that defense won’t be handing out participation trophies.
At 4-2 and ranked 19th, Texas has serious ground to recover. +2200 isn’t enough for me to overlook the offensive inconsistency.
Show me a complete performance first.

2027 College Football Playoff Odds: Other Teams to Watch
LSU (+2150) has momentum after shutting out Mississippi State 31-0, but a demanding schedule featuring Auburn, Alabama, Texas and Tennessee remains. The Tigers are 18th in the AP poll at 5-2.
That’s a difficult route for a team still working to establish consistency.
Oregon (+5200), Florida (+7200) and USC (+8000) have the talent to influence the playoff race. Florida’s upset of Texas showed its upside, while 16th-ranked USC still faces major tests against Ohio State, Indiana and UCLA.
None of those prices becomes attractive merely because the payout looks impressive.
Kentucky (+13500) forced four interceptions against Oklahoma, and Houston (+18000) continues to score behind Conner Weigman. Kentucky is ranked 12th at 6-1; Houston sits 14th with the same record. Both have demonstrated ways to win conference games, but neither has convinced me it can string together enough victories against elite opponents to claim the national championship.
Wake Forest (+22000) and SMU (+30000) remain interesting ACC outsiders, ranked 17th and 23rd respectively. Beyond that range, the board stretches to teams priced at +100000, +200000 and +300000. A six-figure price can catch your eye, but the team still needs a credible route into the bracket and enough quality to survive it.
I’m not buying a lottery ticket and calling it handicapping.
How the 2027 College Football Playoff Works
The 2026–27 College Football Playoff features 12 teams. The five highest-ranked conference champions and the next seven highest-ranked teams qualify through the selection committee’s rankings.
The four highest-ranked conference champions receive first-round byes. Seeds five through twelve play on campus December 18–19, 2026, with the higher-seeded teams hosting.
The Fiesta, Cotton, Rose and Peach bowls host the quarterfinals from December 30 through January 1. The Orange and Sugar bowls host the semifinals January 14–15, followed by the national championship on Monday, January 25, 2027, at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas.
A first-round bye removes one elimination game from the path. That matters when comparing teams with similar championship potential but different opportunities to win their conferences.
When to Bet 2027 College Football Playoff Futures
October is when preseason assumptions finally face serious opposition. For the 2027 College Football Playoff, injuries, difficult road games and conference standings now offer a clearer picture of which teams can realistically reach the bracket. A tempting futures price still needs a believable path to January.
I don’t automatically buy a team after one loss. If it played well and lost a close game, a longer price may deserve attention.
Repeated turnovers, protection problems and defensive breakdowns are different concerns.
Compare the available numbers through our Sportsbooks page. A winning $100 bet at +4400 earns $4,400 profit and returns $4,500. At +4800, the same stake earns $4,800 profit and returns $4,900.
That $400 difference matters, provided the team offers a realistic chance to win. A bigger payout on a team with no believable championship path is still a bad bet.
Five Things I Check Before Betting 2027 CFP Futures
A championship future can look terrific in October and be practically worthless by Thanksgiving. Before I buy a ticket, I want to know what I’m paying, what stands between that team and the playoff, and whether there’s a realistic way to turn the bet into a profit. You can compare those same questions with the opinions of our expert sports handicappers before making your own call.
- Is the price worth the risk?
A legitimate championship contender can still be a lousy bet. At +460, Notre Dame needs a title probability above approximately 17.86% to justify the price. I’m not paying extra for a famous program. - How difficult is the road to the playoff?
Check remaining ranked opponents, dangerous road trips and conference standings. I want to know whether a team can survive another loss or needs to win every remaining game just to qualify. - Can the quarterback handle the big games?
New starters, transfer quarterbacks and coaching changes can make early offensive numbers misleading. I look at pass protection, decision-making under pressure and whether the offense functions when easy throws disappear. - Will the playoff committee respect the resume?
Quality victories, schedule strength and conference results matter when teams compete for the final spots. A high ranking in October doesn’t guarantee a favorable seed in December. - Am I comfortable holding this ticket until January?
Futures tie up money for months, and a profitable hedge isn’t guaranteed even if your team reaches the playoff. I consider the stake, payout and whether I’d be comfortable holding the bet through the championship. Cash-out options vary by sportsbook.
2027 College Football Playoff Odds FAQ
Who is favored to win the 2027 college football national championship?
Notre Dame leads the October 19 MyBookie reference board at +460, followed by Ohio State at +470, Georgia at +500 and Miami at +600. Current prices may differ by sportsbook.
Who is No. 1 in the October 19 AP Top 25?
Miami is ranked No. 1 at 6-0, followed by unbeaten BYU at No. 2 and Ohio State at No. 3. Notre Dame and Georgia complete the top five. These are AP rankings, not the order of championship betting favorites.

The championship is scheduled for Monday, January 25, 2027, at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas.
How many teams qualify for the 2026–27 College Football Playoff?
Twelve teams qualify. The five highest-ranked conference champions and seven additional teams make the field, with the four highest-ranked conference champions receiving first-round byes.
What does +4400 mean in college football futures betting?
A winning $100 championship bet at +4400 produces $4,400 profit and $4,500 total return. The implied probability is approximately 2.22%, before accounting for the sportsbook’s margin.
Does a championship future pay if my team reaches the title game?
No. An outright national championship bet must win the title. Reaching the playoff or championship game isn’t sufficient.

Razor’s Final Take on the 2027 CFP Championship Odds
The 2027 College Football Playoff has plenty of championship talent and remarkably few bargains near the top of the board. Notre Dame is the betting favorite despite sitting fourth in the AP poll, Ohio State has a quarterback question, and Georgia keeps treating turnovers like party favors. Miami has earned its No. 1 ranking, but +600 doesn’t leave much room for another defensive adventure.
BYU at +4400 gets my attention. The Cougars are undefeated, ranked second and have already beaten Notre Dame.
Texas Tech at +4800 and Ole Miss at +1500 belong on the shortlist, although I’d rather identify the strongest opportunity than scatter futures bets across every interesting team.
For now, BYU is the number I’d investigate. If the price disappears, so does my interest.
RAZOR RAY’S TAKE: A famous helmet won’t protect your bankroll, and a No. 1 ranking doesn’t guarantee a championship. Give me a team with a believable January path and odds that actually reward the risk. Otherwise, I’ll keep my money for Saturday, where I don’t have to wait three months to find out whether I was right.
