1. Buffalo Bills (4-1)
It was a bad weekend for the two remaining undefeated teams, as both the Bills and Eagles suffered losses, with Buffalo’s loss coming at home against a team they’ve dominated in recent years. However, they have one of the easiest schedules in the league this year, so they’ll surely bounce back from that one.
2. Philadelphia Eagles (4-1)
The Eagles suffered their first meaningful loss in a long time on Sunday, shining a spotlight on some offensive woes that have plagued this team for some time. Up until Week 5 they’d found ways to win close games, but that didn’t happen against Denver. Perhaps that result will serve as a much-needed wake-up call.
3. Detroit Lions (4-1)
Four straight wins have made the Lions’ opening-week loss a distant memory. Consequently, they’re the hottest team in the NFL right now, and their offense looks absolutely unstoppable. So far they’ve put up 174 points and have outscored their opponents by a margin of more than 60 points. They face a tough test next in a Sunday Night prime-time matchup with the Kansas City Chiefs.
4. Tampa Bay Buccaneers (4-1)
Meanwhile, the Buccaneers are making magic happen late in games. They’re the first team since 1991 to win four times in its first five games despite trailing in the fourth quarter in all of them, with their four wins coming by a combined nine points. Their wide receiver room is deeper than any other group in the league.
5. San Francisco 49ers (4-1)
Thursday night’s win was a masterpiece by Kyle Shanahan. Mac Jones is the latest reclamation project to spawn from the Shanahan coaching tree. Additionally, there are a number of injuries on this roster that will surely catch up with this team come playoff time, but their regular-season schedule is so soft they figure to be in the hunt for a top seed in the NFC.
6. Jacksonville Jaguars (4-1)
Notably, the Jaguars’ start has been on the back of a defense making big play after big play, including a field-flipping touchdown return to help beat the Chiefs on Monday night. If the offense can get going and match the defense, Jacksonville will be a legit threat to the Bills in the AFC.
7. Green Bay Packers (2-1-1)
The Packers come out of their bye to a winnable stretch of games on their schedule, and they’re down to second in the NFC North standings. Therefore, they can’t afford any other blips like their last two results against sub-par competition.
8. Washington Commanders (3-2)
Getting Jayden Daniels back really righted the ship. The team came back from a 10-0 deficit against the Chargers to prove they can hang with the league’s elite teams. Furthermore, their offense is proving to be a force with its new weaponry when Daniels is orchestrating things from under center.
9. Los Angeles Chargers (3-2)
The Chargers are in danger of falling further back after dropping two in a row following an impressive 3-0 start to the season that included wins over all three division rivals. However, they’re dealing with injuries at the running back position, but they have a good chance to right the ship this weekend against the 1-4 Miami Dolphins.
10. Indianapolis Colts (4-1)
A lot of the headlines are still about Daniel Jones – and his turnaround in Indianapolis has been fantastic – but equally deserving of attention are Jonathan Taylor, who’s been the league’s best running back thus far, and Shane Steichen, who has to be at the front of the class for Coach of the Year thus far.
