1. Buffalo Bills (1-0)
Last year was a bit of a reset year for the Bills from a roster construction standpoint, yet Josh Allen still carried the team to the conference championship game.
Now, this year, Allen’s mastery of his craft has found another level, and he’s looking every bit the part of a player poised to win the MVP award in consecutive seasons. Bettors have to respect how this team covers numbers even when they’re not at their sharpest.
2. Philadelphia Eagles (3-0)
It’s not always pretty, but the Eagles are bringing flashbacks of last year’s Chiefs team in that they just seem to find ways to win, even when it isn’t the most stylish.
For example, last week it was 335-pound Jordan Davis blocking a potential game-winning field goal and running it back over 60 yards to clinch the victory. Moreover, that’s the type of fluky play that sharp bettors recognize as the difference between a good team and a great one.
3. Los Angeles Chargers (3-0)
The AFC West was expected to be a hotly contested division this year, but the Chargers needed only three games to build up a two-game lead over each of their division rivals.
Furthermore, Justin Herbert is looking like an MVP candidate as he’s back to playing at the peak of his abilities. Right now, oddsmakers have to keep adjusting the Bolts up the board because they’re beating both the eye test and the number.
4. Tampa Bay Buccaneers (3-0)
The Bucs are another team that just keeps finding ways to win, and sharp players know how valuable that is in a parity-driven league.
Specifically, Baker Mayfield is working through a third offensive coordinator in as many years, but he keeps showing that fourth-quarter comebacks come easy to him. Next, they’ll face a stiff test in an Eagles team they’ve owned in recent years — so don’t be surprised if the betting market undervalues Tampa again.
5. Detroit Lions (2-1)
Many were happy to bury the Lions after a brutal season-opening loss, yet they’ve reeled off back-to-back quality victories with 90 combined points.
Consequently, they likely won’t get to 15 wins again this year, but they’re still a force in the NFC under Dan Campbell. For bettors, this is still a “buy” team until the market catches up to their physical style.
6. Los Angeles Rams (2-1)
The Rams gave the Eagles a very stiff test in Week 3 and nearly escaped with a victory.
Additionally, Davante Adams has been a great addition to the passing game under Matthew Stafford, and the young defense has taken the step forward many projected. The last missing piece is probably a quality cover man to add to the secondary, and once they do, oddsmakers will have to start hanging tighter spreads.
7. Green Bay Packers (2-1)
Many were quick to crown the Packers after a pair of impressive victories to start the season. However, as quickly as they climbed, they crashed right back down with a bad loss to the lowly Browns.
In other words, the Packers were a victim of a wild Week 3. Now, they’ll have to go to Dallas and win there to avoid a deflating trip into their bye week — a classic “prove-it” spot for bettors deciding if Green Bay is the real deal.
8. Baltimore Ravens (1-2)
Through three weeks a year ago the Ravens were 1-2, so it’s tough to be overly concerned knowing how easily this team can reel off victories.
Even so, the defense was supposed to be a stronger point for this team than it’s been. At least their offense remains a force, and that balance keeps them in play for value spots where the public may overreact to early struggles.
9. Washington Commanders (2-1)
The Commanders need to get Jayden Daniels back into the lineup quickly, but they also demonstrated why it’s so important to have a good backup.
Specifically, Marcus Mariota led the team to a win over the Las Vegas Raiders to keep pace with the top teams in the NFC. As a result, Washington’s stock is climbing, and bettors who jumped early may have grabbed them at a discount.
10. Kansas City Chiefs (1-2)
It’s really early in the season for the Chiefs to have been facing a must-win game, but they were able to take care of business against the Giants on Sunday night.
Nevertheless, Patrick Mahomes could really use some reinforcements, starting with the return of Xavier Worthy from injury, and the return of Rashee Rice from his suspension in Week 7. Until then, sharp bettors know to tread carefully because Kansas City is being priced on reputation more than current form.
