Here are three favorites, three longshots, and three from the middle of the pack worthy of a closer look when betting on Super Bowl LV.
Kansas City Chiefs +550
If you take the Chiefs’ core players at their word, getting Kansas City at better than 5-to-1 odds is basically stealing. This is a confident group that has visions of multiple Super Bowl victories in their sights.
The team will certainly be fielding the best quarterback on the planet, and they got the Chris Jones holdout settled relatively quickly. Kansas City’s going to win a lot of games over the next few seasons, but that’s no secret.
Baltimore Ravens +700
It’s amazing to think about the fact Lamar Jackson still doesn’t have a playoff win. He and the Ravens were ousted by the Chargers during his rookie campaign, which was understandable given how late of a start he got to that campaign, but last season the Ravens looked like the team to beat in the AFC before falling flat on their face against the Titans.
This is a very talented team that’s well-coached and field top-5 units on both sides of the ball. Overlooking them because they haven’t had playoff success yet is a mistake.
New Orleans Saints +1000
Another disappointing early exit from the postseason for the Saints, who were a few unlucky bounces away from back-to-back Super Bowl appearances prior to last year. This is a group built to win now, and they showed that by adding some veterans to an already aging group. No team’s going to be entering the season hungrier for a title.
The play: Saints +1000
New England Patriots +2000
As if all eyes weren’t already going to be focused on Bill Belichick and the Patriots and how they weather the absence of Tom Brady, the team went out and signed Cam Newton – one of the most dominant forces we’ve seen at the quarterback position in recent years – when healthy.
There will surely be some growing pains working into a new offense with Newton at the helm, and the defense is going to take a step backward, but with Belichick at the controls, this is a team that’s going to win more games than it will lose.
Pittsburgh Steelers +2500
The Steelers overcame some very poor quarterback play a year ago and nearly backed into the postseason after shoring up the back end of their defense with the addition of Minkah Fitzpatrick.
Now, Ben Roethlisberger returns under center, while that loaded defense remains intact. If Ben can stay healthy, the Steelers are a very underrated threat to come out of the AFC.
Seattle Seahawks +2500
We’ve heard this promise before, but the Seahawks say this will finally be the year they take the shackles off Russell Wilson and unleash his arm on the NFL. The receiving corps is there, but this will still be a team reliant on the running game, surely. The addition of Jamal Adams shows John Schneider is in win-now mode with this Seahawks team.
The play: Steelers +2500
Tennessee Titans +4000
The Titans made the AFC title game a year ago, and were able to lock-up their two biggest free agents in Ryan Tannehill and Derrick Henry to make another run at it. But the sentiment is last season’s run was a fluke, and the Titans are poised for another disappointing campaign.
Denver Broncos +6000
The Broncos are going old school under Vic Fangio, adding Melvin Gordon to a roster that will rely heavily on the run game and its defense to win games. The development of Drew Lock will be key to the team’s success this year, but John Elway’s certainly put a wide array of talented skill position players around him to help accelerate that process.
Houston Texans +7500
The trade of DeAndre Hopkins certainly didn’t help the outlook of the Texans’ roster, but it was hardly a sign the team isn’t looking to win now.
Bill O’Brien still wants to win now, and this team’s shown it can outlast its opponents in the AFC South.
The play: Broncos +6000
