2018 NCAAF Future Betting: Five teams to Consider
Shopping for 2018 College Football Playoffs Futures? The ink is barely dry on all the Clemson finally stories but already we are looking ahead to who will win the national title in 2018 (wow that feels weird to write). The teams below will have a great shot at a title even though we do not absolutely know how the final recruiting rankings will shake out, who will get hurt in the spring or summer, who will be lost or added by transfer…and so much more.

If you play the futures market generally the earlier you get in the better.
So let’s take an early look.
2018 College Football Playoffs Futures: Alabama Crimson Tide: 13/4
That Alabama is going to be good next year should not be a shock.
Odds are they have the top recruiting class in the country and their past recruiting class means that vaunted defense should have plenty of new names to get excited about. Speaking of excitement the offense could really jump with Jalen Hurts even more comfortable in the program.

Bama loses a lot but the replacement are more than ready. They have a monster of an opening game against Florida State but even if they lose that, they could still make the playoffs by running the table in the SEC.
2018 College Football Playoffs Futures: Florida State Seminoles: 8/1
With that opening game there is obviously going to be a link between these two teams in 2017.
Like Alabama, Florida State is excited about the continued development of their quarterback DeAndre Francois, though he will be losing his security blanket RB Dalvin Cook.
FSU always recruits at a high level so any lossed to graduation and/or the NFL should be well covered but their schedule is going to be tough. Alabama to start, Louisville in the middle and trips to Clemson and Florida in November.

Can they get through all of that with just one loss? I don’t like the value on FSU at this point.
2018 College Football Playoffs Futures: USC Trojans: 17/2
Are they back? What does that really mean? At least the excitement is there.
If the Trojans could have held onto CB Adoree Jackson for just one more season maybe this group would be at the top of the futures board.
As it is you have Sam Darnold looking to build on what was a very good opening campaign. Some think he might be the top pick in the 2018 NFL draft. He has a good set of skill players around him and the recruiting leads us to believe the defense will be solid and getting better.
The schedule looks good too. They travel to Notre Dame which doesn’t look all that threatening and host Texas and Western Michigan (I know the Broncs won’t be that good again). Now is the time to bet them if you agree.
2018 College Football Playoffs Futures: Louisville Cardinals: 14/1
If you had to build a college football team from scratch QB Lamar Jackson would be your first pick right? I know he might not be an NFL star but there is no doubting he can lead a college team to great, err, medium to very good heights.
Louisville is a very good program but any attempt at getting into the playoffs means they have to get past at least FSU and Clemson. They got one last year (FSU) but not the other. If Jackson supplies the magic maybe they can find a way into the playoffs.
The nonconference is more than navigable.
2018 College Football Playoffs Futures: Texas Longhorns: 28/1
They have their coach now but will it be enough. Tom Herman has impressed a lot and gets to walk into a situation where improvement will not be too tough. The big thing is getting the offense to perform and there are pieces in place.
QB Shane Beuchele definitely looks like a good one, it is just too bad D’Onta Foreman didn’t stick around. Still the recruiting never really sagged so both sides of the ball have good reason to be good.

Texas plays at USC which is likely a loss…but if it is a win that probably means they are ahead of schedule and the rest of theirs is not terrible. A longshot but decent payout.
More 2018 College Football Playoffs Futures:
Notre Dame Fighting Irish 65/1 – This is a cheat and I really wouldn’t take this bet.
BYU Cougars 300/1 – The Cougars are always a little mysterious but they are generally good too.
They are set at QB and have a more than good enough schedule to find themselves in the playoffs if they win: LSU (neutral site), home games against Boise State, Utah and Wisconsin, plus a trip to Mississippi State. They would probably have to be undefeated though.
