2024 PGA Tour – Grant Thornton Invitational Preview & Picks
It’s time for the latest edition of the 2024 Grant Thornton Invitational PGA Tourney, and that means it’s time for some PGA Tour free picks. The PGA Tour’s FedEx Fall Series continues this week with a trip to Naples, Florida for the Grant Thornton Invitational. The event will take place at Tiburon Golf Club and is the another event in the PGA tour off-season. Thirty-two of the best golfers in the world will team in pairs to compete, this course was the site of the QBE Shootout from 2017 to 2022, and has hosted the LPGA’s season finale, the CME Group Tour Championship since 2011.

Last year’s mixed-team, co-sanctioned event was the first such tournament between the LPGA and PGA Tour since the JCPenney Classic back in 1999. This tournament presents a unique, three-round format, with 18 holes of Scramble, 18 holes of Foursomes (Alternate shot), and 18 holes of Modified Four-ball.
Lydia Ko returns to defend her title alongside Jason Day. Ko won three times on the LPGA this season in addition to claiming Olympic gold in Paris. For his part, Day was a member of the Presidents Cup International team and had four finishes inside the top-10 on Tour this year.
This Week on the PGA Tour
The Canadian team of Brooke Henderson and Corey Conners find themselves among the betting favorites. Henderson is the winningest Canadian of all time on either the LPGA or PGA Tour and has nine top-10s this year. Conners had four top-10s of his own, enough to make him Canada’s top-ranked male golfer.
Nelly Korda and Tony Finau are the betting favorites this week. Korda was downright dominant this year with seven wins, including a major title. She was named the LPGA’s player of the year and will end the year ranked as the No. 1 female player in the world. Finau had five top-10s including three straight in June, including a T3 at the U.S. Open.
Close behind them on the betting board is the team of Jeeno Thitikul and Tom Kim. Thitikul had two wins and a remarkable 12 top-10s in 17 starts on the LPGA this season, culminating in a win at the season-ending CME Group Tour Championship which is of course contested at Tiburon. Kim played on the International team at the Presidents Cup and had two top-10s on Tour this season.

The Canadian duo finished one shot short of the leader for solo second in this event last year, and neither has a win in 2024, so they’ll be extra motivated to make up for what they missed out on a year ago.

The defending champions find themselves slotted in fourth on the betting board. Ko already has two wins here on the LPGA to go along with last year’s title in this event, so she certainly knows how to win on this course. This would be a fine capper to a year in which she qualified for the LPGA Hall of Fame.
2024 Grant Thornton Invitational Free Picks & Golf Betting Odds: Megan Khang & Matt Kuchar +2200
Khang had five top-10s this year, and Kuchar has won at Tiburon three times before, with another eight top-threes in his dozen starts at the QBE Shootout. Kuchar is the all-time earnings leader at Tiburon, and is now paired with Khang, who finished T4 alongside Denny McCarthy at this event last year.

They’re down near the bottom of the betting board but this is a pair of players who can crush the ball off the tee and should set themselves up for favorable second shots all week. Knapp is 24th in driving distance on Tour, while Tavatanakit is 23rd on the LPGA. Tavatanakit won her first tournament in three years this season, and Knapp won his lone Tour event this year at the Mexico Open at Vidanta.
