Here’s why I’m backing a Washington PL bet below in my Kraken Capitals free pick & gambling prediction for this matchup.
Kraken vs. Capitals Gameday
Seattle arrives in Washington with an offense capable of scoring in bunches. The Capitals have been considerably more reliable at keeping opponents quiet. Something has to give when those two approaches meet Sunday afternoon.
The Seattle Kraken visit the Washington Capitals at Capital One Arena on October 11, 2026. Puck drop is 5:00 PM ET, with coverage on Prime Video, Monumental Sports Network and KONG.
Lane Lambert’s Kraken are 3-2-0, including a 2-1-0 road record.
Seattle has the scoring punch, but Washington’s disciplined defensive approach presents a demanding road test.
Spencer Carbery’s Capitals are 3-1-0 and have won their first two home games. Washington can complete a three-game homestand sweep with another victory. The Capitals have looked comfortable protecting their own end.
Seattle has been less predictable, alternating explosive offensive performances with frustrating defensive lapses. Consistency apparently didn’t make the packing list.
It’s early in the 2026-27 NHL season, but both clubs have given their coaches plenty to evaluate.

Seattle Kraken vs. Washington Capitals Odds & Previous Games
The supplied NHL betting odds favor Washington at -216, with Seattle returning +183. The Capitals are -1.5 at +116, while the Kraken are +1.5 at -142. The total is 6.5 goals, with the Under priced at -117.
Seattle defeated Detroit 6-3 on Friday after losing to Vegas 6-2 and Edmonton 3-1. The Kraken also recorded a pair of 6-1 victories against Calgary.
Apparently, six has become Seattle’s favorite number.
Washington beat the Rangers 3-1 in its latest game. The Capitals previously defeated Pittsburgh 5-3 and Carolina 5-2, with their lone defeat coming against Tampa Bay.
The teams split their two meetings last season. Washington swept the previous season’s series, giving the Capitals the stronger recent head-to-head history. Seattle hasn’t found many comfortable evenings against this opponent.
Sunday marks their first meeting of the new season.

Capitals Stats
Washington has scored 14 goals through four games, averaging 3.5 per contest. The Capitals have converted twice on the power play, giving Carbery another offensive option. Their production has come from several different contributors rather than one dominant line.
Defensively, Washington allows 2.25 goals per game. Its structure has limited dangerous opportunities and helped the team protect leads.
That’s an encouraging early foundation.
Tom Wilson has five points, including two goals and three assists. His 11 hits suggest he hasn’t suddenly developed an allergy to physical contact. Alex Tuch has contributed three goals, while Boone Jenner provides experience and valuable work in the faceoff circle.
Washington has enough forward depth to create difficult matchups throughout the lineup. Opposing defenders won’t get many shifts to relax.
Rasmus Sandin and Matt Roy remain sidelined, while Pierre-Luc Dubois has been dealing with an illness.
Kraken Stats
Seattle has scored 21 goals through five games, averaging 4.2 per contest. The Kraken have collected 37 assists and converted four times on the power play. When their passing clicks, opponents spend plenty of time retrieving pucks from uncomfortable places.
Seattle has also recorded 96 blocked shots and 27 takeaways. Those totals demonstrate defensive effort, even when the overall execution hasn’t been consistent.
The Kraken allow 2.8 goals per game.
Frederick Gaudreau scored twice against Detroit, while Ben Meyers added a goal and two assists. Seattle erupted for four goals in the second period.
Matty Beniers, Jordan Eberle and Shane Wright provide additional offensive options. Lambert can spread his scoring opportunities across multiple lines rather than relying on one combination. That depth has already produced some entertaining results.
Defenseman Ryan Lindgren is on injured reserve, while forward Jacob Melanson is also unavailable.
Seattle’s forward depth creates scoring chances, but injuries have reduced its defensive flexibility on the road.
Kraken vs. Capitals Goalie Matchup
Washington has received excellent early goaltending from Logan Thompson. His three appearances have helped the Capitals establish a strong defensive record. The veteran has been particularly effective when opponents generate pressure around the crease.
Thompson made 22 saves in Friday’s victory over the Rangers. Charlie Lindgren gives Washington another experienced option if Carbery decides to rotate his goaltenders.
Sunday’s starter has not been confirmed.
Seattle has divided its goaltending workload between Joey Daccord and Philipp Grubauer. Both have provided useful performances during the Kraken’s opening stretch.

Grubauer made 37 saves against Detroit, keeping Seattle competitive before its offense took control. Daccord has also delivered strong stretches, including against Calgary. Lambert has options, but neither goaltender has been confirmed for Sunday.
The goaltending decisions could influence how aggressively both teams approach the opening period.
Washington’s defenders have generally done a good job limiting second chances. Seattle prefers creating traffic and forcing opponents into hurried clearances.
Special teams deserve attention as well. The Kraken have generated offense with the extra attacker, while Washington has protected its own end effectively. Unnecessary penalties could make either coaching staff considerably less cheerful.
Seattle Kraken vs. Washington Capitals bottom line: Washington’s defensive discipline faces Seattle’s dangerous forward depth, with puck management and special teams shaping the matchup.
Seattle Kraken vs. Washington Capitals Hockey Betting Trends
- Washington has gone 3-1 in their first four games of the 2027 regular season.

- Also, the Capitals have scored 5 goals in two of their last four games.
- The Kraken have scored 6 goals in three of their last five games.
- Plus, Washington’s last two games at home have resulted in wins by a margin of 2 goals.
- Seattle’s last two games on the road have resulted in wins by a margin of 3 and 5 goals.
Kraken Capitals Free Pick: Capitals -1.5
Here is my Kraken Capitals free pick: I’m taking Washington Capitals -1.5 (+116). At -216 on the moneyline, Washington is expensive enough to make your wallet ask questions. I’ll accept the two-goal requirement in exchange for a plus-money return. The key is Washington turning its territorial advantage into a lead rather than simply winning the shot count. I want the Capitals creating traffic, collecting rebounds and making Seattle defend consecutive shifts.
A one-goal victory won’t cash this ticket.
I’m backing Washington to turn sustained offensive pressure into a two-goal victory at plus money.
Seattle’s biggest vulnerability is how quickly its defensive coverage can unravel under pressure. If Washington establishes an early lead, the Kraken will have to open up and take greater risks.
That’s when the puck line becomes interesting. Seattle chasing the game can create odd-man rushes, defensive breakdowns and eventually an empty-net opportunity. I’ll gladly take an insurance goal with nobody in the crease, and I promise not to complain about the aesthetics. I like Washington’s chances of finishing the job without paying the steep moneyline price.
My preferred result is 5-1, with the Capitals controlling the important stretches and adding separation late.
NHL free pick Capitals -1.5 (+116).
