Here’s why I’m backing the Over in my Bruins Sharks free pick and NHL betting prediction.
Bruins vs. Sharks Gameday
Boston opens a four-game road trip against San Jose on Tuesday, October 13, 2026. The Bruins enter at 4-2-0, while the Sharks are 3-2-0. Both clubs have shown promise, although neither has been particularly predictable.
The game takes place at SAP Center in San Jose, with puck drop scheduled for 11:00 PM ET. ESPN carries the national broadcast.
Marco Sturm’s Bruins have won two straight.
Boston brings stronger defensive form, while San Jose has the young talent to challenge that advantage.
Ryan Warsofsky’s Sharks are 2-1-0 at home. They’re looking to rebound from a weekend defeat against Edmonton.
Boston welcomes Charlie McAvoy back after a six-game suspension. He’s expected to rejoin Hampus Lindholm on the top defensive pairing. That’s a pretty useful addition for a team already finding its footing.
San Jose will have to work for its scoring chances.

Boston Bruins vs. San Jose Sharks Odds & Previous Games
The opening NHL betting odds list San Jose at -110 on the moneyline, with Boston at -108. The Sharks are -1.5 at +222 on the puck line. The total is set at 6.5 goals.
Boston defeated Philadelphia 5-1 and Utah 6-1 in its last two games. The Bruins previously suffered matching 4-1 losses against Ottawa and Minnesota.
Apparently, consistency is still a work in progress.
San Jose lost 3-1 to Edmonton after beating St. Louis 3-2 in overtime. The Sharks were also shut out 5-0 by Dallas.
San Jose swept last season’s meetings, winning 3-1 at home and 4-2 in Boston. The clubs split their two games during the previous season.
Recent history has been considerably kinder to the Sharks.

Sharks Stats
San Jose has scored 13 goals through five games, averaging 2.60 per contest. The Sharks have allowed 17, or 3.40 per game. Their offensive production has been uneven, with dangerous stretches followed by long scoring droughts.
Physical play has been a strength, with 148 hits and 78 blocked shots. San Jose hasn’t been shy about making opponents work along the boards.
At least nobody can accuse the Sharks of avoiding contact.
San Jose has enough young offensive talent to threaten opponents, but its defensive consistency remains a concern.
Macklin Celebrini leads the club with six points, including five assists. Tyler Toffoli has four points, while Will Smith provides another skilled offensive option.
Celebrini returned from a lower-body injury against Edmonton. He scored San Jose’s only goal in that game.
His availability makes the Sharks considerably more dangerous.
Bruins Stats
Boston has scored 20 goals through six games, averaging 3.33 per contest. The Bruins have generated offense from multiple forward combinations. That balance has made them harder to defend than a team relying exclusively on its biggest star.
David Pastrnak leads Boston with seven points, including two goals and five assists. Fraser Minten has also contributed five points.
That’s welcome secondary production for Sturm.
The Bruins have surrendered 13 goals, an average of 2.17 per game. Their defensive structure has helped keep opponents from generating consistent pressure.
JJ Peterka and Casey Mittelstadt have added useful scoring contributions. Boston has enough forward depth to create chances without waiting for one line to carry the offense.
Pastrnak remains the player opposing defenses worry about most. His ability to create something from very little forces opponents to stay alert. Taking a shift off against him is generally an expensive hobby.
Bruins vs. Sharks Goaltending Matchup
Jeremy Swayman gets the start for Boston after another strong performance against Philadelphia. He enters with a 1.79 GAA and .932 save percentage through five appearances. Those numbers explain why opposing forwards aren’t exactly thrilled to see him across the ice.
Swayman has four victories and one shutout. His positioning and rebound control have helped Boston protect the dangerous areas around its net.
San Jose faces a difficult assignment.
Yaroslav Askarov is a potential starter for the Sharks, although San Jose’s choice has not been confirmed. He has two victories through four appearances with an .860 save percentage.
Alex Nedeljkovic is another option after helping San Jose defeat St. Louis. He made 24 saves in that overtime victory.
Warsofsky has a decision to make.
Boston will try to keep San Jose’s shooters to the outside. The Sharks need traffic and quick passes through the slot to create better opportunities.
CP Is More Than Just Sports Picks!
“ Anybody can post a prediction. CappersPicks backs up its sports picks with opinionated matchup analysis, experienced handicappers & documented betting performance. Pad that bankroll one day at a time! ”
Special teams could influence this matchup. Boston has converted 18.8 percent of its power plays, compared with 15.4 percent for San Jose.
Neither club has been overwhelming with the extra skater.
Discipline will matter when both teams have dangerous offensive players. A careless penalty can erase several minutes of solid defensive work. Coaches tend to frown on that sort of generosity.
Boston Bruins vs. San Jose Sharks bottom line: Boston owns the goaltending advantage, but San Jose has enough offensive talent to make this a demanding road opener.

Bruins Sharks Free Pick: Over 6.5
Here is my Bruins Sharks free pick: I’m taking Over 6.5 goals. Boston can play disciplined hockey, but San Jose isn’t built to sit back and trade harmless shots from the blue line. I see enough potential for a wide-open second half to make seven goals a reasonable target.
The first goal could be important to this ticket. If either team falls behind early, I expect the trailing side to push its defensemen forward rather than settle for a cautious night.
That creates scoring opportunities at both ends.
I’m betting on the game opening up once somebody has to chase, with both teams capable of punishing the extra space.
I also like the possibility of extended offensive-zone possessions turning into second and third chances. A clean first save doesn’t end a shift when defenders lose their assignments around the crease.
One ugly rebound counts exactly the same as a highlight-reel goal.
The number gives us several workable finishes. A 4-2 game late can become 5-2 with an empty net, while a 3-3 tie needs only one more goal. I don’t need eight goals by the second intermission, and neither does my ticket.
The biggest danger is a slow, penalty-free opening period.
Still, I’m willing to back the scoring opportunities that should develop as the game progresses. My preferred result is a 5-3 Boston victory, with San Jose contributing enough to keep the total moving. My NHL free pick is Over 6.5 goals.
