It’s midseason in the NHL which means it’s time for the 2017 NHL All-Star game 3-on-3 tournament. If you’re unfamiliar with this recently revamped all-star game, the tournament will be a single elimination format where teams representing each of the four divisions will play.
We’ll give you a brief breakdown of each division’s squad and who’s playing, as well as our pick for the eventual winner of the tournament.
Central Division
While you have to keep in mind that this tournament is mostly all in good fun and guys aren’t going to be pushing themselves too hard, it is hard to look at the Central Division’s roster and not want to place a bet on this team.
The Blackhawks’ Corey Crawford and the Minnesota Wild’s Devan Dubnyk are the two goaltenders on the team, which means that the net will be minded extremely well.
Dubnyk is leading the league in goals against average and Crawford has been having a very good year for Chicago.

The usual suspects like Patrick Kane, Jonathan Toews, and Duncan Keith from Chicago are skating for the team, while St. Louis’ Vladimir Tarasenko is also making an appearance.
Winnipeg will put star rookie Patrik Laine on the ice. Laine is having a fantastic year for the Jets and you know he’ll want to skate hard and score in his first ever All-Star appearance.
He’s coming off a concussion so he probably won’t play a lot but he’ll certainly try to make the most of his time on the ice.
Metropolitan Division
The Metropolitan Division has been the NHL’s best and toughest division this year. With representatives from Washington, Philadelphia, Columbus, and Pittsburgh, this team is stacked.
You’ll definitely see a line of Sidney Crosby and Alex Ovechkin at some point in the tournament and that’s a pretty frightening and awesome thing to think about.
Those guys will definitely grab some goals.
Columbus’ Cam Atkinson, replacing the injured Evgeni Malkin, has been scoring at will this year and he’ll look to do the same while representing his team at the tournament.
While his team isn’t having an All-Star season, the Islanders’ John Tavares still is. He’s been brilliant all year and deserves his place on this team.
He’ll try to show off a bit and give his Islander fans something to cheer about.
Pacific Division
The Kings’ Jeff Carter will certainly look to show off on his home ice, so look for him to get a lot of ice time and a lot of shots on goal.
He’ll have some great guys to work with, including the Oilers’ future Hall of Famer Connor McDavid. McDavid is having a brilliant year with 15 goals and 42 assists. He’ll certainly be looking to make his presence known with both his shooting and great passing.
Two-way defenseman Brent Burns is always fun to watch and he can certainly get things done offensively. He has a blast at these All-Star games and he’ll pull out some shenanigans at some point.
[dfads params=’groups=234&limit=1&return_javascript=1′]
Calgary’s Johnny “Hockey” Gaudreau will get on the ice and show off his quick feet and quick shot. This kid is fun to watch and he’ll want to show what he can do to the casual hockey fans that might not know about this Calgary star.
Atlantic Division
Rookie sensation Auston Matthews will represent his Toronto Maple Leafs in his first ever NHL All-Star game. He’s been an unstoppable goal-scoring force over the last couple months and he’ll be looking for his first all-star game goal, along with more.
Defenseman Shea Weber will definitely shoot at will in this one and he’ll have the space to blast his 100-plus MPH slapshot at some point.
In goal, the Atlantic division will have Montreal’s Carey Price in goal, along with Boston’s Tuukka Rask, so you might not see a lot of goals from whoever plays against them. Price is having a fantastic year in goal for the Canadiens, and Rask has been no slouch either.
And speaking of Boston, the squad will have forward Brad Marchand, who is a great stick-handler and can get to the net to score.
NHL Betting Trends:
- The Pacific Division won the 2016 tournament
- The Atlantic Division was shutout in the 2016 final
Free NHL All-Star 3-on-3 Tournament NHL Hockey Prediction:
The Metropolitan division should get things done here. While this is all in good fun, I know the duo of Sidney Crosby and Alex Ovechkin is going to take it seriously and try to score a lot of goals. Cam Atkinson should get in on the action as well.
4* Free NHL Betting Pick: Metropolitan +250
I’m a big fan of the Central’s lineup. However, a team with Sid, Ovi, Tavares, and Cam Atkinson is going to score A LOT of goals. I’m rolling with the Metropolitan Division’s money line on this one.
