The Pittsburgh Steelers will play host to the Washington Football Team at Heinz Field on Monday after a short week of rest. Washington made a statement in a blowout win over the Dallas Cowboys on Thanksgiving. The Steelers are coming off an ugly win against the shorthanded Ravens in one of the only Wednesday games in NFL history.
Washington Football Team
Washington has been playing better football as of late, and their Thanksgiving win put them on top of the NFC East standings. They have won three of their last 5 games, with those two losses coming by a combined margin of 6 points. They team has tightened up and has been competitive with Alex Smith at quarterback.
Smith has started the last three games, his first since returning from the life-threatening leg injury he suffered two years ago. The quarterback was told it was unlikely that he would ever play football again, let alone lead a team through division title race. Smith has completed 69% of his passes for 1067 yards and three touchdowns, but he has thrown 5 interceptions.
One of the drivers of Washington’s recent success has come from their success on the ground. The Football Team has rushed for an average of 145 yards per game over their last three. Rookie running back Antonio Gibson has established himself as a star for this squad, rushing for six touchdowns in his last three games.

The defense has been a bright spot of the season for Washington. Rookie phenom Chase Young has led a tough defensive front that has gotten after opposing quarterbacks. The Football Team has been a top 10 scoring defense, allowing 22.1 points per game. They are top-three in passing yards allowed (194.6) and sacks per game (3.3).
Pittsburgh Steelers
Pittsburgh’s offense has played well this year behind Ben Roethlisberger. Their strength comes from their variety of weapons and ability to exploit mismatches the defense presents them. Their host of playmakers for Ben to work with has helped power them to a perfect 11-0 record.
The talented receiving corps is a nightmare for opposing defenses. JuJu Smith-Schuster has proven his ability to make plays when the defense isn’t able to key in on him. Claypool and Johnson have played well enough prevent teams from keying in on JuJu. The 6-foot-4, 238 pound Claypool has caught 45 receptions for 611 yards and eight touchdowns. He has also added two touchdowns on the ground.
Pittsburgh’s hard-nosed defense has continued to play well. They are allowing a league best 17.1 points per game and 324.4 yards. The pass rush led by TJ Watt, Bud Dupree, and Cam Heyward leads the league with a whopping 3.7 sacks per game. They will be without Dupree going forward, after he tore his ACL against the Ravens. Others will have to step up for Pittsburgh to continue their dominance.

4* Free NFL Betting Prediction: Under 42
Pittsburgh’s offense made plenty of mistakes in week 12. They dropped a few big passes, struggled in the Red Zone, gave up two turnovers, and turned the ball over on downs. On a short week of rest they don’t have much time to correct their mistakes.
Both teams have tough defenses that are able to get after opposing quarterbacks. These offenses will have their work cut out for them. This should be a close game with enough stops to keep this one under the total.
