The Giants host the division leading Eagles in a week 14 matchup.
The Giants have been the subject of a lot of negative talk of regression and being “done”. They could have dispelled the rumors with a win on Sunday and instead finished with a tie against divisional Washington. This week represents their toughest test yet and could serve as a springboard with an upset.
Philly has dominated the NFC all season long, yet sit one game ahead of the Vikings atop the conference. They dominated a good Titans team 35-10 at home and now look at the Giants, a team they’ve owned since 2017.
New York Giants
Daniel Jones was a do-it-all player on Sunday against Washington, posting 271 scrimmage yards and leading the Giants in rushing. When they’ve designed runs for the soon to be free agent the offense has effectively moved the ball, something they’ll need to manufacture against Philly.
Barkley topped 1k yards this Sunday and put a touchdown on the board as well. He usually ends up being the focal point by the opposing defense, so his effectiveness is equally impressive. Philly has been notably vulnerable to the run this season, so the Jones-Barkley tandem has a chance to post some real numbers here.
It would surprise most to know then, that DVOA actually puts the Giants 10th in passing offense. Darius Slayton is a solid deep option, but for the most part, New York is good at moving the pocket out of pressure’s way and making chicken salad from chicken you-know-what.
Perhaps no position on the Giants is more compromised than their secondary however. The loss of Adoree Jackson was huge and has left the sidelines to the scrap heap options. Terry McLaurin was open all day while abusing Fabian Moreau, so the likes of AJ Brown and Devonta Smith should have a banner day.
Hurts is in the running for MVP and his rushing ability will be even more noticeable this week. The Giants linebacking corps is also severely undermanned.
Philadelphia Eagles
Philly is now the league’s best rushing offense per DVOA to go along with their #3 defense. We know Hurts has the ability to scramble, but even Miles Sanders and Kenneth Gainwell have come on in recent weeks. The Giants rank a mere 26th in rushing yards allowed per game, so this is a juicy matchup.
I mentioned it above, but AJ Brown is chalk for the best receiver in week 14 with his matchup. There’s nothing stopping him from posting 200 yards receiving here, so I expect just about as much. He destroyed a much more competent Tennessee secondary, though he had some hard feelings coming into it.
Philly is #2 against the pass and rank second in sacks this season. The Giants o-line, while vastly improved, struggled in two meeting against the Cowboys. They were able to rollout and move the pocket, which deafened the noise somewhat, but I expect the Giants to struggle.

There aren’t enough positives I can say for Philly and how they match up here against New York. I suspect the line has made it to 7 due to the Giants’ propensity to run and it’s Philly’s only real weakness.
Betting trends also back the Giants. As home underdogs in 2022, the Giants are 3-0 ATS, covering by an average of 5.3 points.
Philly has been conversely awful as a road favorite, going 1-4 ATS, failing to cover by an average of 0.5 points.
As much as Philly profiles to blast the Giants here, I can’t ignore betting trends.
