The 2019 NFL regular season is coming quick! We have week 2 preseason to look forward to this weekend and one of the more interesting betting games is this New England Patriots versus the Tennessee Titans.
Neither of these teams played many starters in week 1, but both came away with victories. I would look for both of these teams to go with the same game plan in this one and focus more on their younger talent.
New England Patriots
The New England Patriots are coming off one of the stranger Super Bowls in recent history. In that game their defense was able to step up against an outstanding Rams offense to end up winning the game 13-3 and extending one of the greatest dynasties of all time. It really comes as no surprise then, that the Patriots are once again favorites at +700 to go back to back and lift the Lombardi once more. That price is also likely justified as the AFC East is likely to remain just as weak as in seasons past and the Patriots are returning with many of the same players as last year.
The Patriots are coming off a very successful week 1 where they crushed the Lions 31-3 without playing any starters and getting a good look at this year’s 4th round pick Jarrett Stidham who threw for 179 yards and a touchdown in a very successful debut. Stidham will likely get more time under center here and would expect him to only get better as he gets more and more experience.
It is also important to note in this one, that Brian Hoyer also played in that last game against the Tigers and played extremely well going 12/14 with 147 yards and two touchdowns. The QB situation for this game against the Titans should be roughly the same and given that performance against the Lions you would have to say the team is in good hands.
The Tennessee Titans, in contrast to Saturday’s opponent, is coming off a bitterly disappointing season in which they lost a win and your in game against the Colts on the last day of the regular season 33-17.
Although Mariota didn’t play in that game, the pressure will be on as another disappointing season with him under center will likely have the Titans moving on either signing someone in free agency or using the draft.
The Titans were also successful in their preseason opener getting good looks at Logan Woodside and Ryan Tannehill who will be nipping at Mariota’s heels all season long. The Titans will look to take down the Patriots here and give the home fans in Nashville some kind of hope in a season where they go into week 1 as a +6000 dog to take the 2020 Super Bowl.
4* Free NFL Betting Prediction: Patriots -1
I was personally really impressed with the New England Patriots QB situation and would look for that to continue here on Saturday. Lay the 1 point and take the Pats as they look to extend their record to 2-0.
