The Packers head to Minnesota to open the season against the Vikings. What a way to kickoff the season with the top 2 teams most likely in the NFC North facing off.
The Packers open as 2 point favorites and are sitting at -125 on the ML. The Vikings are home dogs, sitting at +125 on the ML. The total for this game is set at 47.
Green Bay Packers
The Packers are coming into this game and this season with a new look offense after losing the best wide receiver in the league in Davante Adams. With the loss of Adams, the Packers will mix it up with multiple new targets for Rodgers. They added Sammy Watkins in the offseason; and then drafted Romeo Doubs and Christian Watson. Those wideouts will get plenty of targets, while Allen Lazard looks to be the clear number one option for Rodgers.
The real strength of this offense is going to be the 1-2 punch with Aaron Jones and AJ Dillon. Aaron Jones would be considered the clear number 1, but AJ Dillon has improved each year and is ready for a breakout campaign in his 3rd season. It will be interesting to see how head coach Matt Lafleur mixes and matches these 2 backs; including how often we see them on the field at the same time.
The Packers defense is outstanding on paper and we will need to see if it translate to the field. The defense was improved toward the end of last season, and they added Quay Walker and Devonte Wyatt in the first round of this years draft. They have 2 great edge rushers in Rashan Gary and Preston Smith, an all-pro lineback in De’Vondre Campbell, and the 3 sum of Jaire Alexander, Eric Stokes and Rasual Douglas as corners. They should be fun to watch this season.
Minnesota Vikings
The Vikings cleaned house this offseason and brought in a new general manager and new head coach. Kevin O’Connell was brought in as the head coach fresh off helping the Rams win the Super Bowl last season. He should improve this offense and really bring it into the new school system, using the strong weapons that they have.
As we know, this offense has always ran through Dalvin Cook. He has had 249+ carries the last 3 season and that will most likely continue. The real thing to watch with this new offense is going to see if O’Connell can do the same thing with Justin Jefferson that the Rams did with Cooper Kupp last season. Besides that, the offense still has Adam Thielen and they recently brought in Jalen Reagor. Let’s see what Kirk Cousins can do with this new system.
On the defensive side of the ball, they still have Danielle Hunter, Eric Kendricks and Harrison Smith running their perspective levels on the defense. They brought in Jordan Hicks at MLB, and the big one for this game is Za’Darius Smith. The Packers and him had a breakup after last season and he feels like he was betrayed by the Packers; so it will be fun to watch him come off the edge in this revenge game for him.

4* Free Week 1 NFL Betting Prediction: Packers ML
This is a tough game to pick not really knowing how each team is going to look offensively. Both teams didn’t really show much in the preseason with the starters not playing at all, but I’ll take the favorite in this game and take the Packers ML. I think they have a stronger defense and that will help them just edge off the Vikings in this game.
