The Cowboys still have hope for the top spot in the NFC heading into their week 18 matchup with the Commanders.
Just a little while ago, it might have seemed like Dallas would have little motivation going into the final week, but that is far from the case.
I would expect a fully loaded Dallas squad to be on the field for Sunday’s matchup. To earn the #1 spot, they will need to win along with the 49ers and Eagles losing.
On the other side of things, there is really not a ton of motivation for the Commanders in this spot. Sure, they would love to take down a divisional rival, but the reality is this team just wants their season to end.
After putting forth the kind of performance they did against the Browns, it is hard to envision them being much better against a Cowboys team that is just much better than they are.
Dallas Cowboys
The Cowboys will look to get win #13 of the season when they visit the Nation’s capital after taking care of the Titans on Thursday Night Football.
It seemed like it was a foregone conclusion that the Eagles would be the winners of the NFC East, but that is not a guarantee now. It will be quite interesting to see how it all shakes out in the end.
Dallas played far from a perfect game against Tennessee, but it was still more than enough against a team that just did not match up to them. Against the better opponents, though, that kind of play is likely not going to get it cut.
Although it did not show in the final score, I did feel like the Cowboys were coasting through their TNF matchup. For them, I am looking to see more urgency in their final game of the regular season against an opponent they should be able to expose.
A win is a win is a win. I get it. However, there is something to be said for how you win and Dallas has not always been convincing in their victories against the lesser teams this season. Whether it is playing down to their competition, not having enough focus, etc., this squad has to elevate their game even more if they wish to get to where they truly want.
Regardless of what Philadelphia and San Francisco do, the last game of the regular season is a very good chance for Mike McCarthy’s team to assert their dominance on both sides of the field. I would look for the offense to be a little more free-flowing than it was last time and for the defense to keep up their solid play.
Washington Commanders
After dropping two games in a row, things did not get any better for the Commanders with a 24-10 loss to the Browns. Even against a team that is not very good, they managed to play poorly.
Sunday’s loss was a very sloppy one for them and I think it really showed the kind of team they are at their core. They might surprise their fans with some wins and they may appear to be relevant, but this team is a long way away and they do not have their answers at QB or coach.
Carson Wentz, as he often does, looked terrible in their last game and gave his team no shot at winning the game. He finished the afternoon going 16/28 for 143 yards and 3 picks. Once again, the Wentz experiment failed.
On defense, the Commanders did enough to keep themselves in the game, but it did not matter in the end. Given how poorly the offense played, they were not going to get the win no matter how well the defense played.
At 7-8-1 and the playoffs no longer a reality, it is hard to totally imagine what is next for this team. One thing is for certain, though: If they run it all back next season, it is going to be more of the same. Until the necessary changes are made, do not expect anything great from them.
At this point, it is hard to envision them having any real success against Dallas. It really could be one of those games that turn out to be pretty ugly for the home team.

In this spot, there are really no areas where I have much confidence in the Commanders. Being able to consistently stop Dallas on offense will be tricky and so will being able to move the ball consistently.
There is always the chance that the Cowboys play down and keep things closer than they should be, but I do not see that here.
When everything is settled, I do not feel this will be all that close.
