The Houston Texans return home after giving away another potential game-winning score against the Indianapolis Colts for the second time in three weeks. Missed opportunities and underperformance has been the story for the Texans all season as they find themselves at the bottom of the league standings with no high draft pick to show for. These final few weeks will show just how much pride this team has and what can be built on for next year.
The Cincinnati Bengals are traveling to town coming off a huge Monday Night upset win over their inter-divisional foes the Pittsburgh Steelers. Cincinnati brought the energy all game thanks to an early Vonn Bell hit on JuJu Smith-Schuster causing a fumble which led to a Bengals score putting them up 10-0. They continued to feed off the home crowd the whole way and didn’t look back to secure only their third win of the season while handing the Steelers their third loss.
The Texans are in a favorable matchup this game as home favorites facing a Bengals team off a shortened week.
Cincinnati Bengals
The Cincinnati Bengals entered their rebuilding year in the hopes of being guided by their potential franchise saving #1 pick Joe Burrow. Cincinnati started the year well as they were able to keep games close due to the exceptional play of Burrow and the offense. Unfortunately, a week 11 knee injury leaves Burrow facing a significant loss of time as the Bengals continue to try to find a quality replacement in the meantime.
Ryan Finley served as a game manager Monday Night as he threw and ran for a touchdown while only managing a total of 136 yards of offense. The defense led the way as they were able to contain Big Ben and the passing attack meanwhile causing three turnovers. Leading receiver Tyler Boyd was lost in the contest due to a concussion and his status for the week 16 matchup does not look promising.
Expect a regression for the Bengals offense that fed off Steelers miscues as Deshaun Watson will make sure to be more protective of the ball. The lack of legitimate quarterback play has hindered the Bengals since Burrow went down and I believe that will return this week in a letdown spot.
Houston Texans
Houston has lost three straight as they continue to drag themselves to the end of their disappointing season. Losing the remarkable playmaking ability of receivers DeAndre Hopkins, Kenny Stills, and Will Fuller IV has left Deshaun Watson struggling to carry his team. Despite the adversity and losing record he has still managed to garner another pro bowl nod with his exceptional statline of 4,139 yards with 27 TD to 6 INT.
Facing the reality of no first round pick thanks to the work of former GM and Coach Bill O’Brien, the Texans have no factors to play for other than their pride under leadership of interim coach Romeo Crennel. Houston will look to end their losing skid at home under the leadership of Watson.
NFL Betting Trends:
- Cincinnati has gone under in 4 of their last 5 games
- Cincinnati ranks 30th in points per game (18.8)
- Cincinnati is 0-6-1 ML and 3-4 ATS on the road this year
- Houston has gone under in 5 of their last 6 games
- Houston ranks 23rd in points per games (22.5)
- Houston is 2-4 ML and 2-4 ATS at home this year
4* Free NFL Betting Prediction: Under 46
I find it hard to envision a high output of scoring in this contest as both offenses rank in the lower half of the league in scoring. Cincinnati will fall back to their norm of struggling to move the ball through the air as Ryan Finley is simply not Joe Burrow. Houston lacks practically any sense of firepower at this point in the year as Watson has essentially turned into a one man show.
Watch for this game to go under the total of 46 as Cincinnati struggles to play on the road and Houston will do just enough offensively to win while keeping this matchup low scoring.
