A revolving door of replacement QB’s -including Colt McCoy, who also suffered a broken leg- failed to surpass 13 points in those final seven games. Meanwhile, to compound matters, opposing teams had no issue scoring against the Redskins’ exhausted defense.
And with no timetable for Alex Smith’s return after suffering a gruesome tibia and fibula break, Washington is a team searching for identity.

In an offensively-driven league, opening the season without Quarterback answers would stoke doubts among any franchise. Though, concern amplifies when that franchise has just one playoff appearance in six years.
Perennially on the cusp of Wild Card contention, though unable to break through, 2019 could become the year Washington decides to start fresh.
And after spending a recent first round draft pick on Ohio State phenom QB Dewayne Haskins, a Washington rebuild appears likely. Or does it?
2019 Washington Redskins Predictions: Roster Changes
Haskins represents the Redskins’ most significant offseason move. At 6’3 and 231 lb Haskins threw 50 touchdowns against eight interceptions as an exiting Sophomore. Those physical and on-field feats wowed college football fans and impressed the national media -Haskins finished third in 2018’s Heisman voting.
And while the Redskins likely have their star Quarterback of the future, the team’s second most important offseason signing left Washington fans confounded.
Whether a preemptive move to bring along Haskins gradually or a season-long stopgap measure, Washington signed former Broncos starting QB Case Keenum. Keenum opened all 16 games for Denver in 2018. The 30-year-old threw 18 TD’s against 15 picks last year while compiling a 6-10 record. Though, in 2017 Keenum helmed Minnesota’s playoff-bound attack with 22 TD’s and just 7 INT’s.
Keenum’s signing, however, is doubly head-scratching when considering his purpose. The veteran passer isn’t a franchise-saving QB, nor is he at a point where he’ll wiilingly bench warm for a precocious rookie.
It seems Washington brass is gambling on the 2017 Keenum appearing early. And if that fails, Haskins will take starting reps behind center signifying a new era of Redskins football.

After another 1,000 yard campaign, and as the lone option in a mediocre running scheme, Adrian Peterson’s contract was extended two seasons. Peterson will mentor Derrius Guice. Guice, the 59th overall pick in 2018, is expected to add value in spots while adjusting to the pro ranks.
Finally, Washington used the draft to shore up weak points by selecting wideouts Terry McLaurin and Kelvin Harmon. The team’s final first round selection went to speedy 6’6, 260 lb pass rusher Montez Sweat. Sweat was a monster for Mississippi State last season, compiling 12.0 sacks, 14.5 tackles for loss and 53 total tackles.
Additionally, three time SS Pro Bowler Landon Collins will pay backend dividends as a free-agent signing after making 96 stops last year for NYG. Landon will replace departed DJ Swearinger as the second line’s playcaller.
2019 Washington Redskins Predictions: Offense
Don’t expect much turnaround from a Washington group ranked #29 last season at 17.6 points per game. Although Keenum is an upgrade over McCoy, he won’t approach Alex Smith-type productivity and could be on the downside after his rough Denver sojourn.
Further, if his name is called, uber talent DeWayne Haskins must adjust to the NFL’s steep curve.
That stated, lacking big-play threats from the subpar receiving core, Washington’s QB’s and offense will again struggle.

Those struggles may trickle into the backfield as Adrian Peterson’s 34-year-old body isn’t much longer for prime NFL carries. Further, protege in-waiting Derrius Guice must prove he can perform, especially after sustaining ACL surgery and missing his entire rookie season.
2019 Washington Redskins Predictions: Defense
With decent returning veterans, solid free-agent signings and a physical rookie force in tow, Washington’s defense will be a solid group.
Though, this defensive group likely won’t be enough to carry the team’s makeshift offense.
All Pro Linebacker Ryan Kerrigan and Jonathan Allen should mix nicely with rookie Sweat while teaching him the finer points of NFL football.
2019 Washington Redskins Handicapping: (Strengths/Weaknesses)
Washington is a solid defensive team with an above-average line backing core and secondary. Blessed with a weak schedule, look for several under games this year from the Skins. Further, DeWayne Haskins could become a ROY dark horse.
Conversely, Washington’s offense is a less-than-productive bunch.

2019 Washington Redskins Predictions (Final Record): 7-9
Due primarily to a weak schedule, this Redskins group is facing another mediocre 7-9 season. The real intrigue, though, should come from seeing how well rookies Haskins, Sweat and Guice perform.
