2019 Eagles Season Preview & NFL Futures Lines
Looking for 2019 Philadelphia Eagles predictions? We’ve got your back. Two seasons removed from an improbable Super Bowl win, Philadelphia returned to earth in 2018. After losing starting QB Carson Wentz to another untimely injury, the Eagles managed nine wins and a divisional playoff exit last winter vs. New Orleans. Now, in the aftermath of reserve QB Nick Foles’ recent free-agency exit, Philadelphia signed Wentz to a handsome four-year $128 million extension.

With no proven backup currently rostered it’s imperative Wentz remain healthy for Philadelphia to achieve preseason expectations.
Such expectations include Vegas’ backing to win the NFC East, though pundits are divided on that prediction. And such mixed opinions are natural given Wentz’ health history and Philly’s conspicuous secondary issues. Last season the Eagles ranked last among all NFL teams in passing yardage allowed. Further, the Eagles did little to address this issue over the summer.
Still, if Wentz’ body holds, the Eagles have enough offensive playmakers and front end defensive strength to make noise in the NFC. Every snap will bring high drama among Eagles nation.
2019 Philadelphia Eagles Predictions: Roster Changes
As touched upon, losing Nick Foles’ experienced, capable arm this offseason to Jacksonville places a massive burden upon Philadelphia’s psyche. Nate Sudfield and rookie Clayton Thorson will battle for backup QB honors, though neither own the requisite know-how behind center to keep Philly afloat should Wentz go down.
In an offensively-driven league, Philadelphia’s faithful remain irked with team management for not pursuing veteran backup QB options.
Though, amid the quarterback controversy, the Eagles retrieved 32-year-old deep threat DeSean Jackson. Jackson led the NFL last season at 18.9 yards per catch, the fourth time he has done so.
Draftwise, Philly selected OT Andre Dillard in the first round while soldifiying its already strong front line. The team then grabbed physical 6’3, 225 lbs wideout JJ Arcega-Whiteside. Arcega-Whiteside caught 63 passes while totaling 1,059 yards and 16 touchdowns last season at Stanford. Second round pick Miles Sanders, after a breakout 1,200-yard season with Penn State, will help invigorate Philadelphia’s running game.
That stated, after trending toward the league’s bottom in all rushing categories in 2018, the Eagles acquired former Pro Bowler Jordan Howard this off-season. Howard ran for 935 yards and nine touchdowns in 2018 for Chicago as a workhorse back. Though, Howard’s 3.8 yards per carry last year represents a career low. The plan is to use Howard selectively, thus adding another wrinkle opposing teams must respect.

Defensively inconsistent in 2018, Philly upgraded by signing 2017 Pro Bowler Malik Jackson away from Jacksonville. Last season, Jackson appeared in all 16 games, starting ten, while recording 32 tackles, 3.5 sacks and 12 QB hits. Team brass feels Jackson will fit nicely beside Fletcher Cox in a loaded defensive frontline.
After losing LB Jordan Hicks via free agency, Philadelphia reloaded its defensive cupboards by adding veteran LB’s Zach Brown and Vinny Curry.
Finally, DB Andrew Sendejo’s signing completes the list of notable moves made this offseason by Philadelphia. Sendejo, who appeared in just five games last year with Minnesota, will add depth along Philly’s vulnerable secondary.
2019 Philadelphia Eagles Predictions: Offense
Carson Wentz is surrounded by talented receivers and now has a pair of running back threats that were missing last season. After throwing for over 3,000 yards and 21 touchdowns last season, Wentz’ main target will be All Pro tight end Zach Ertz. In 2018, Ertz had a monster year while catching 116 passes for 1,116 yards.
Other standout Philly receivers include Nelson Agholor (64 catches), Alshon Jefferey (65 catches) and returning deep-threat DeSean Jackson.
Also, a handful of talented youngsters, including Dallas Goedert and rookie Arcega-Whiteside are readying for their chance at the spotlight.

As stated, offseason RB acquisitions Jordan Howard and Miles Sanders represent an upgrade to Philly’s running attack. However, 2018 holdovers Josh Adams and Wendell Smallwood -along with dual threat Corey Clement- will add depth behind Howard in a suddenly capable Eagles backfield.
Provided Wentz remains healthy, this Philadelphia offense is deep, talented and primed to reclaim their spot atop the NFC.
2019 Philadelphia Eagles Predictions: Defense
The Eagles defensive front will again need to carry a secondary, which on paper, looks no better than last season’s ineffective unit.
The onus falls upon Fletcher Cox and DeSean Jackson to rally a forceful pass-rushing group so the ball will spend less time in the air against their secondary.
Philly will again experience defensive ups and downs, which will keep the team from becoming truly elite.
2019 Philadelphia Eagles Handicapping: (Strengths/Weaknesses)
Philadelphia is a loaded offensive team with good interior defenders and a winning culture.
However, the Eagles’ weaknesses include its secondary. Further, if Wentz goes down, as of this writing, with no viable backup QB, the Eagles become easy win fodder.

2019 Philadelphia Eagles Predictions (Final Record): 9-7
Assuming Wentz is fully recovered from a fractured back, and his injuries do not compound to other body parts, Philly’s offense will be special. More so, the team’s defense will again be passable.
And with an easier schedule than reigning division champ Dallas, plus the strengths to exploit Dallas’ weaknesses, look for this Eagles group to finish 9-7 and win the NFC East by tie-breaker over the Cowboys.
