2019 Denver Broncos Predictions: Roster Changes
The Denver Broncos have overhauled their team and are hoping to get back to playing in deep January.
Vic Fangio is the new head coach for Denver and he’s going to look to turn around that defense. The Broncos still have some pieces on the defensive side of the ball and Fangio will feel real comfortable having one of the best pass rushers in the game in Von Miller.
Khalil Mack thrived last year under Fangio and Miller should see the same results.
Joe Flacco will be under center this year and he’s going to try and revitalize his career. Flacco has been an average at best quarterback over the last four seasons.
Maybe a change of scenery is what he needs and maybe he’ll get back to playing at his 2012 form.
2019 Denver Broncos Predictions: Offense
Flacco has pieces on the offensive side to thrive. Emmanuel Sanders is coming off an injury; Courtland Sutton had a good rookie and will look to continue that in his second year.
Phillip Lindsay took to bull by the horns last year and became one of the more effective runners in the NFL. He did slow down in his final three games, but that might be more of hitting the rookie wall.
Plus, the Broncos still have Royce Freeman who will compliment Lindsay very well.
The Broncos used a first round pick on tight end Noah Font hoping to get more production from the tight end spot.
The big key will be the offensive line. As a whole, they severely regressed due to injures and performance. Ron Leary will have to get back to playing at a high level and Garret Bolles is going to have to take that next step and become a reliable left guard.
The Broncos did sign Ja’Waun James in hopes of solidifying the right tackle position.
2019 Denver Broncos Predictions: Defense
As mentioned above, Fangio will have fun having yet another elite passer to coach in Miller. Plus, the Broncos have Bradley Chubb who is an ultra talented player who should thrive, as well under Fangio.
Derek Wolfe is still a solid defensive end, but he could perhaps get a boost with Fangio coming in. Wolfe has slowed down the last couple of years. He may or not have enough in the tank, but we’ll get our answer this year.
The Broncos tried to get back up to par in the secondary. Kareem Jackson and Bryce Callahan got signed this past offseason and the Broncos still have Chris Harris on their roster.
The defense should improve in 2019 with the coaching and the talent Denver still has.
2019 Denver Broncos Handicapping: (Strengths/Weaknesses)
The strength of this team is going to be leaning on the defense and establish a running game. That seems like that’s going to be their identity and it’s a good strategy to have once January rolls around and when you have a high flying team like the Kansas City Chiefs, ball control is important.
The weakness is their offensive line and at quarterback. If Flacco can’t get protection and when he does if he can’t make the throws then running the ball is going to be difficult.
Flacco is going to have to make some passes to loosen up the defense and establish a running game.
2019 Denver Broncos Prediction (Final Record): 7-9
This is an interesting team that is teetering on the fence where they can win five to eight games with a tricky schedule. It’s hard to really say where they end up because the margin for error is really slim.
We know that they have a great home field advantage, especially early in the season. That’s going to be a disadvantage for teams like Chicago and Jacksonville that come to Denver in September.
The three key games I see that will determine which way their win total falls is opening night at Oakland, at home against Cleveland, and at home against the Chargers. If they run the table on those three games I can see them going 8-8 maybe you can squeeze one more win out there in an upset.
Overall, though, I think the oddsmakers have it right I’ve got the Broncos at seven wins. If you really want to bet an over/under on the Broncos, I’d lean toward the under. I think a lot has to go right for the Broncos to get to .500 or even over .500.
