It turns out the Baker Mayfield Resurgence Tour may have been a little prematurely hyped. Sure a 17-16 win over Las Vegas when Mayfield had been with the Rams for just two days was impressive, but L.A. came back to reality a bit with a 24-12 loss in Green Bay on Monday night.
Denver picked up a rare win last week, beating the equally downtrodden Cardinals 24-15. That marks two solid offensive weeks in a row for the Broncos following their 34-28 loss to Kansas City in week 14.
Denver Broncos
Denver won last week even with backup QB Brett Rypien in the game after Russell Wilson suffered a concussion against the Chiefs. Rypien was a very efficient 21/26, throwing for 197 yards with 1/1 but was helped immensely by RB Latavius Murray piling up 130 yards rushing.
Wilson has been upgraded to probable to return in the Broncos vs Los Angeles matchup, and he had one of his better games of the season vs. the Chiefs before getting injured. Wilson was 23/36 for 247 yards and 3 TDs vs Kansas City while WR Jerry Jeudy went off in that game for three TDs.
The Broncos defense had their worst performance of the year against Kansas City, giving up over 430 yards of total offense – but they also picked off Patrick Mahomes three times. Denver looked good last weekend against Arizona, holding an opponent to 17 points or less for the fifth time in the last eight games.
Los Angeles Rams
At 4-10 and with just three games left on the schedule, it’s no sense for the Rams to rush back any of their multiple injured personnel including Aaron Donald (ankle) and Cooper Kupp (ankle). We should see a lot of the same personnel that could only muster 12 points at Green Bay.
The Rams work on the short week after Monday’s loss at Lambeau, There weren’t a whole lot of offensive bright spots for Los Angeles in the loss to Green Bay, as the team had just 156 yards of total offense.
Mayfield was 12/21 for 111 yards on Monday, not shocking numbers considering he’s been with the team with just two weeks but still disappointing considering the Rams had extra prep time after the 1-point win over the Raiders the previous Thursday.
Things probably won’t be much better for the Rams on Sunday afternoon as the Broncos rank 5th in the NFL in total yards allowed (309.0) and 3rd in fewest points (18.1). Denver’s problems this year have come on the offensive side of the football, not defensive.

This is the 2022 home finale for the Rams, but they’re just eager to have this Super Bowl hangover season be over with and try to get healthy in the offseason. Wilson should be back for Denver, but Rypien was also extremely accurate last week albeit against Arizona.
You can’t trust the Rams right now, this has to be a play on the Broncos as that top notch defense plays head games with Mayfield.
