NASCAR Handicapping
After last weekend’s historic race in Mexico City, the NASCAR Cup Series will be back in more traditional surroundings in Pennsylvania at Pocono Raceway for The Great American Getaway 400. Shane van Gisbergen was the victor a week ago, solidifying his spot in the playoffs, but he won’t be among the favorites this week on a more traditional NASCAR track. Ryan Blaney was the victor here a year ago and will be in the field looking to defend his title on Sunday.
This is always one of the more intriguing and challenging races on the calendar thanks to Pocono’s unique 2.5-mile triangular layout. This year the race is the third and final seeding contest for NASCAR’s In-Season challenge, adding a little more to the stakes for Sunday’s race.
Joe Gibbs Racing has dominated recent races at Pocono, with wins in seven of the last 10 races here. Denny Hamlin has five career Cup Series victories on this track, more than any other driver.
NASCAR 2025 The Great American Getaway 400 Race Odds: Denny Hamlin +500
Hamlin took a week off to be with his fiancée for the birth of their son, so he missed the race in Mexico City. He returns with that extra motivation, looking to celebrate his son’s birth on a track that’s historically been one of the best for him on the schedule.
Hamlin has multiple career wins at Pocono, including as recently as 2023. A year ago he was right in the thick of it as well, finishing as the runner-up to Ryan Blaney. Expect him to be in contention once again this weekend.
NASCAR 2025 The Great American Getaway 400 Race Odds: Ryan Blaney +800
Mexico City wasn’t kind to Blaney – road courses aren’t his specialty – but he managed a respectable P14 in the event. Like Hamlin, he’ll be happy to shift gears and make the move to Pocono, which is one of his best tracks. He won here back in 2017, and he turned the trick again with a win here last season. On Sunday, win No. 3 will certainly be on his mind. Blaney’s combination of speed and appetite for risk make him one of the biggest threats in the field to Hamlin’s dominance on this track.
NASCAR The Great American Getaway 400 Race Odds: Christopher Bell +1000
Bell was the best of the top tier of drivers in Mexico City, finishing runner-up despite crossing the finish line nearly 17 seconds behind Shane van Gisbergen’s pace. He’ll have an eye on a better result at Pocono where he has three top-six finishes in only seven starts. We know Joe Gibbs Racing has the cheat codes to this track so that won’t hurt Bell’s chances either, and we could do worse than loading up on JGR drivers this weekend.
NASCAR Odds: Tyler Reddick +1200
Reddick is still without a win on the season, and he’s without a win at Pocono for his career, but the underlying numbers say a breakthrough may be in the cards, which is why the oddsmakers haven’t fully discounted the 23XI Racing driver this weekend.
Reddick is coming off an unimpressive P20 finish in Mexico City, but we’ve seen him run closer to the front of the pack in Pocono in recent years with second place finishes in both 2022 and 2023. He’s been consistently good here, and that could finally translate to his breakthrough win.
NASCAR Odds: Bubba Wallace +3100
Wallace is coming off a 12th-place finish in Mexico City and will carry extra motivation into this race as he keeps his playoff push alive. He’s run well at Pocono with an average finish of 8.5 over the last four races.
