NASCAR Handicapping
The NASCAR Cup Series heads to the Circuit of the Americas in Austin on Sunday for the EchoPark Automotive Grand Prix. This will mark the first road race of the season on the NASCAR schedule after two season-opening drafting tracks. In those races, only two drivers secured top-10 finishes in each – Ryan Blaney and John Hunter Nemechek.
The Cup Series drivers head to Texas after last week’s race in Atlanta saw Christopher Bell secure the race’s 50th lead change on the final lap for his first win since last June, which is also the first win for Joe Gibbs Racing in that time. For RFK Racing, Brad Keselowski looks to finish his first race of the season after having been involved in accidents at Daytona and Atlanta.
NASCAR 2025 EchoPark Automotive Grand Prix Race Odds: Shane van Gisbergen +500
van Gisbergen always pops up when NASCAR makes it out to road courses. SVG made a real name for himself in his NASCAR debut when he won the Chicago Street Race, and since then he’s cemented himself as a fixtures on these types of tracks.
Now he’s in his first season as a full-timer in this series. He came close to winning at COTA in the Xfinity Series last year before a run-in with Austin Hill took him out of contention. His Cup Series race here saw him finish P20. A better day is likely in store for him this week.
NASCAR 2025 EchoPark Automotive Grand Prix Race Odds: Connor Zilisch +750
Another name we’re not used to seeing this high on the betting board, but oddsmakers seem to think Zilisch can pen a similar story to the one van Gisbergen did for himself. Zilisch is making his NASCAR Cup Series debut this weekend riding in the NO. 87 Red Bull Chevrolet for Trackhouse Racing.
Zilisch won in his Xfinity Series debut at Watkins Glen last year, and he’s another driver who’s shown he can be an ace on road courses, so perhaps he can harness a little magic at COTA.
NASCAR Odds: William Byron +850
Byron wasn’t able to follow up his Daytona 500 victory with another win in Atlanta thanks to a wreck late in that race. But he should be back in contention again this weekend on a track that’s been very favorable for him. Byron hasn’t finished worse than P12 here over the last four years, including a win in Austin last season. After starting in victory lane in Daytona and at the Circuit of the Americas in 2024, Byron will hope to turn the feat again this year.
NASCAR Odds: Kyle Larson +1100
Larson must still be fuming after coming up just short on his final lap in Atlanta, when a cation flag forced him to settle for P3 behind Christopher Bell and Carson Hocevar who he had his sights set on overcoming on the final lap.
This will now be his fifth race at COTA, where he hasn’t won but was runner-up here in 2021. He’ll have his sights set on winning at this track for the first time in the Cup Series this weekend.
NASCAR Odds: Chase Elliott +1300
Elliott will have an axe to grind this weekend after a disappointing result last week. The Georgia native was involved in an incident that took him out of contention in Atlanta and forced the Team Hendrick drive into a P20 finish on Sunday.
He’ll hope for a better result at COTA, where he’s historically performed well. He won here in 2021, and had a P2 in 2022. Another win on this track would be a great way to jumpstart his 2025 season.
