The NASCAR Cup Series heads to Martinsville this week for the Cook Out 400. This race follows a two-bagger for Kyle Larson in which he won the Homestead-Miami race for his first trip to victory lane of the season, and also added a win as the betting favorite in the weekend’s truck series race. The win in the Straight Talk Wireless 400 moved Larson up to second in the Drivers’ Championship standings.
Larson sits behind only William Byron, who continues to sit atop the standings. Byron opened the season with a win in the Daytona 500, and has followed that with top 10 finishes in three of the last four races. Last week he finished 12th at the Straight Talk Wireless 400. Hendrick Motorsports is currently the home of four of the top six drivers in the standings, including the top three of Byron, Larson, and Christopher Bell, with Chase Elliott sitting in sixth spot.
Bell was riding high after three consecutive wins in within the first four races of the season, but a 29th-place finish last week dropped him to fifth in the driver’s standings. This week in Martinsville, Ryan Blaney is installed as the betting favorite. Blaney led 124 laps at Homestead last weekend and was sitting in third before a blown engine ended his day short.
This is the seventh race of the NASCAR Cup Series schedule and is one of the series’ most historic, dating back to 1950.
This is the first race of the season in Martinsville, with the second coming at the Xfinity 500 during the playoffs.
NASCAR 2025 Cook Out 400 Race Odds: Kyle Larson +500
Larson’s win at Homestead was a real breakthrough. He finished second in passing, speed, and defense in a victory that could really jumpstart the season for No. 5. We could be seeing him in victory lane more often in the near future, as the upcoming schedule lines up very nicely for Larson. He won in Martinsville in 2023, and has five top-six finishes here since 2021, so he could follow Christopher Bell’s lead and string together some wins.
NASCAR 2025 Cook Out 400 Race Odds: William Byron +700
The leader in the overall driver’s standings finished 12th at homestead despite a tough final stage. It looked like he was destined for a better finish after picking up stage points in each of the first two. He’s won here at Martinsville in the spring twice before. He leads the circuit in some very key metrics including speed, defense, and he’s the best restarter. He’ll surely be eyeing win No. 2 this season to stack alongside his Daytona 500 victory.
NASCAR Odds: Joey Logano +9000
Logano’s season thus far has been a bit of a headscratcher. The defending NASCAR champion leads the circuit this year with 247 laps led, but still doesn’t have a top-10 finish. Martinsville could be a good spot for him to right the ship as this is a track he’s run well at. He’s recorded six consecutive top 10 finishes here.
NASCAR Odds: Alex Bowman +2800
With his P2 last Sunday, Bowman completed a stretch of four consecutive top 10 finishes, and five in six outings. He seems due to breakthrough, and Martinsville is a track he’s won at before, back in 2021.
NASCAR Odds: Bubba Wallace +3000
Wallace enters this week coming off a season-best P3 at Homestead where led for 56 laps to turn around his recent fortunes. This is a good spot for him to start providing a return on Michael Jordan’s investment into 23XI Racing.
