NASCAR Handicapping
The NASCAR Cup Series will host its annual Memorial Day weekend event at Charlotte Motor Speedway on Sunday for the 65th Coca-Cola 600. This is the longest race on the schedule at 400 laps and 600 miles, making for a four-stage marathon.
Kyle Larson will once again attempt motorsport’s infamous “Double,” participating in the running of the Indianapolis 500 earlier in the day, then making the trip to Charlotte for the Coca-Cola 600 in the evening. It’s the second year in a row Larson will attempt this rare feat.
If Larson can accomplish the feat, he’d become just the second of five drivers who’ve attempted to run both races to complete all 1,100 miles on the one day. Tony Stewart was the first to do so, when in 2021 he finished sixth at the Indy 500 and third in the Coca-Cola 600.
Last year, Larson was done in by the weather, as a delay in the Indy 500 forced him to miss the start of the Coca-Cola 600. By the time he arrived in Charlotte, the Coca-Cola 600 was in a rain delay and eventually postponed before he had the change to run a single lap.
Larson has said he’ll prioritize the Cup Series race this year should weather become an issue again. Arrangements have already been made for 2013 Indy 500 winner and 2004 IndyCar champion Tony Kanaan to fill in for Larson at the Indy 500.
With an eye on the Cup Series, Larson will be the driver in the best form entering this race, having led 221 of 267 laps at Kansas for his third points victory of 2025, pushing him to the top of the standings at 469 points. But the travel between Indy and Charlotte took its toll when we saw him in 21st spot in the All-Star Race after travelling back from Indy qualifying.
NASCAR 2025 Coca-Cola 600 Race Odds: Tyler Reddick +650
Reddick is still without a victory in 2025, and he’s never won at Charlotte, but he seems poised for a breakthrough at this track, coming off consecutive top five finishes in this event.
NASCAR 2025 Coca-Cola 600 Race Odds: Denny Hamlin +700
Hamlin’s cooled off slightly in recent weeks after a hot stretch. This is a great spot for him to turn things back around in a race he won in 2022.
NASCAR Odds: Christopher Bell +700
Bell arrives in Charlotte as the defending winner of this race. He’ll not only be looking to go back-to-back with wins in this event, but also win in back-to-back weeks after a late pass in the All-Star Race saw him overtake Joey Logano to win the race at North Wilkesboro.
NASCAR Odds: Alex Bowman +2200
We’ve seen Bowman show race-winning speed on multiple occasions in recent weeks, but he’s been done in by car damage and other tough luck. We did see a runner-up finish from him at Homestead back in March. With his Hendrick Motorsports teammate Kyle Larson possibly distracted by his participation in the Indy 500, Bowman could be the Hendrick driver we see out front this weekend.
NASCAR Odds: Josh Berry +2200
Berry is coming off a strong showing at Kansas where he had a top 10 average running position and finished sixth. That followed a P7 at Texas, and he won at Las Vegas earlier in the season on a track that comps similar to Charlotte. Berry had a top-10 finish in the Coca-Cola 600 last year, and in 2022 he won the Xfinity Series race here when he led 89 laps.
