NASCAR Handicapping
Shane van Gisbergen is putting the Cup Series on notice. The New Zealand native just made it back-to-back wins on the NASCAR circuit, becoming the first driver since Jimmie Johnson in 2008 to win three races from the pole in a single season.
The schedule now shifts from technical road courses to classic ovals, and we’re likely to see the usual suspects back atop the odds board. The tour heads east, leaving the twists of the West Coast behind and setting sights on Dover International Speedway.
Last year, Denny Hamlin took the checkered flag in Delaware, holding off Kyle Larson in a tight finish. For many drivers, this return to oval racing is a welcome change. It marks a return to familiarity — the kind of setup most teams have built their success on.
The In-Season Challenge has added some serious juice to the last few races. With every point carrying weight, the stakes are climbing fast as drivers scramble for crucial position down the stretch.
Hendrick Motorsports has dominated at Dover, and there’s no reason to think they won’t be a factor again. Kyle Larson, in particular, will be eager to bounce back after a brutal 35th-place showing last weekend.
He finished runner-up here to Hamlin in 2024.
NASCAR 2025 AutoTrader EchoPark Automotive 400 Race Odds: Denny Hamlin +400
A P20 at Sonoma wasn’t the most memorable finish for the Joe Gibss Racing driver, but he did win his 35th Cup Series race at Dover a year ago, and also won here back in 2020.
He leads all drivers with 207 laps lead here over his past three starts on this track, and led for the final 71 laps in iwnning last year’s race.
NASCAR 2025 AutoTrader EchoPark Automotive 400 Race Odds: Kyle Larson +450
Larson won at Dover back in 2019, and he’s nearly added to that multiple times over the years, including last season’s runner-up finish to Hamlin. He’s had a rough stretch of races, including a disappointing trip to his home state where last year’s win turned into this year’s P35 at Sonoma.
He would do well to put that all behind him with a win on a track Hendrick Motorsports has fared quite well at.
NASCAR Odds: Chase Elliott +900
Elliott looked like he was going to give Shane van Gisbergen a run for his money at Sonoma this weekend when he came out late on fresh tires. A couple of cautions put an end to those dreams, but he still managed a third-place finish.
As part of the Hendrick Motorsports team that’s performed so well here, Elliott is a solid value outside the top four names on the board. He’s won here twice before, in 2018 and 2022.
Also, last season he had another top-five finish in this race.
NASCAR Odds: Ross Chastain +1100
Chastain is another driver who looked like he could have been in for a bigger afternoon at Sonoma after he started P4 and won the first stage of the race. But that’s where his momentum died out, and he finished P24.
He’s come close to cracking a victory out of Dover, with a P2 and a P3 finish here within the last three years. It has to be said, he already has a win in 2025 and a second would do him a lot of good in the standings.
NASCAR Odds: Christopher Bell +1400
Continuing with the tread of drivers who just couldn’t overcome Shane van Gisbergen at Sonoma, Bel settled for a P5 there. What’s more, he was P34 in this race a year ago, but he’s performed better on this track before, with a P4 and a P6 in Delaware.
