NASCAR Handicapping
NASCAR heads to Wine Country this week for its only West Coast race of the summer as the Toyota Save Mart 350 is set for Sonoma Raceway. The drivers will get another taste of road course racing this week which is a format that always presents a unique challenge for handicappers.
NASCAR’s road race specialists have surely had this race circled on their calendars for some time as this is the second road race hosted at Sonnoma this season, and the Chicago Street Race is the only other road course race left in the regular season.
Sonoma Raceway is a favorite of Martin Truex Jr., who led 51 laps and earned his fourth career win at this track last year. He’s always among the betting favorites at Sonoma, but there are some other big names to keep an eye out for here, including Kyle Larson and Kyle Busch.
Truex looks to join Jeff Gordon as the second-ever five-time winner on the road course at Sonoma hills. A win is notably missing from Truex’s resume this season as he hasn’t won a race yet this year, but this is a great spot for him to get right on that front, as he’s won on every configuration at Sonoma.
NASCAR Betting
William Byron won the most recent road course at Circuit of the Americas, to go along with wins at the Daytona 500 and Martinsville for his three victories on the season. Denny Hamlin joins him as another three-time winner in NASCAR this season.
Larson has a pair of victories already this season, in Vegas and Kansas. This is a hometown race for him, and comes just two weeks after he attempted the double at the Indianapolis 500 and Coca-Cola 600, but that attempt was thwarted by rain. He still needs to punch his ticket to the playoffs.
NASCAR 2024 Toyota Save Mart 350 Race Odds: Kyle Larson +750
Larson finished in the top-10 his last time out, but for the first time all season, he finished between 6-10 as he’s been hit or miss. Now on his home track, we should see Larson at his best as he’ll surely be dialed in as he looks to bounce back on the track he won on in 2021.
NASCAR 2024 Toyota Save Mart 350 Race Odds: William Byron +750
There’ll be a lot of attention on Byron this week as he started hot last week before dropping back to a 15th-place finish. He won the first road course race of the season in dominant fashion, leading 42 of 68 laps, reminiscent of his win at Watkins Glen last summer when he led 66 of 90 laps.
NASCAR Odds: Christoper Bell +750
Bell nearly pulled off back-to-back races with what was shaping up to be a dominant showing on Sunday before Blaney held him up and he ran into engine trouble. He still managed to finish seventh, so things could have been worse, but he’ll be eyeing a bounce back performance as he rides his good form into Sonoma.

NASCAR Odds: Austin Cindric +2200
Prior to Sunday, Cindric had one top-five, one top-10, and 11 finishes of 20th or worse in 14 starts this season. He needed some help from above to end up the winner rather than in his rightful third spot, but perhaps there’s a little more luck left in the can for Cindric this week.

NASCAR Odds: Ryan Blaney +2800
Blaney’s year could be a lot better if not for a few bouts of bad luck. He lost by an inch in Atlanta, and ran out of fuel with a victory in sight on Sunday. If he can get past that loss and reset his mindset to get dialed in for this race, he offers solid value at his current price.
