NASCAR Handicapping
The 2024 Iowa Corn 350 powered by Ethanol will be the first time the NASCAR Cup Series will host a race in Newton, Iowa. Previously, the track hosted annual NASCAR Xfinity Series events from 2011 to 2019, and NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series races from 2009 to 2019, so we have seen some drivers race on this track, but the majority of drivers, and particularly the biggest names on the betting board, won’t have put rubber to road on this track before.
With this being the inaugural event, there’s little past history to draw on at this track, making for a more wide open field, with the favorites having less of a claim to that classification. The race is replacing the Pala Casino 400 due to planned construction at that host venue – the Auto Club Speedway. There had been talk of this race moving to Montreal, but that deal was never done, and so, the drivers head to Iowa.
This return to Iowa has been highly anticipated, with the short track offering no clear favorites, though Joe Gibbs Racing drivers have been best at short-track events this season, making that the team to watch entering Sunday’s race.
Kyle Larson has been the top of NASCAR for weeks, particularly with his heavily publicized attempt at the ‘double’ which led to him missing the Coca-Cola 600 due to a weather delay at the Indianapolis 500 which prevented him from participating in both races on the same day.
NASCAR Betting
Larson was back in the NASCAR spotlight this week for all the right reasons after winning his third race of the season at the Toyota Save Mart 350 at Sonoma Raceway, putting himself back in the forefront for the 2024 Cup Series crown.
NASCAR 2024 Iowa Corn 350 Race Odds: Christopher Bell +380
Bell isn’t the driver we typically see atop the betting board, but as mentioned, short-track races have been dominated by the Joe Gibbs Racing team this season, and that brings Bell to the forefront.
He has two wins already this season, and he’s brought race-winning speed to flat short-track ovals all year long. So while we’re lacking on historical performance on this particular track for all drivers, Bell’s resume is certainly best suited for the challenges the drivers will face on Sunday.

NASCAR 2024 Iowa Corn 350 Race Odds: Denny Hamlin +700
Another driver from the Joe Gibbs Racing team in the spotlight, Hamlin has three wins on the season at Bristol, Dover, and Richmond, with that last one certainly resembling Iowa Speedway in many ways.
Engine failure ended Hamlin’s day on the third lap of the race at Sonoma last week, so he’ll certainly be eager to bounce back with a strong showing this weekend.
NASCAR Odds: Martin Truex Jr. +1000
Truex has been on the verge of something big in recent weeks, but he’s been plagued by bad luck. A flat tire at Gateway followed by an empty fuel tank at Sonoma have robbed him of strong results. He’s been solid on short tracks, with a dominant performance at Richmond Raceway, this is a prime bounce back spot for the #19 Joe Gibbs Racing driver.

NASCAR Odds: Brad Keselowski +1200
Branching out from Joe Gibbs racing to RFK, Keselowski has a win and five top-five finishes in seven races which makes him worthy of some attention. He’s shown solid speed on short tracks, and participated in a tire test at Iowa Speedway last month which should give him some familiarity with the track. He won three times in seven starts at the track while on the Xfinity series, never finishing worse than eighth in those starts.

NASCAR Odds: Ross Chastain +2800
This is a race Chastain certainly had circled on his calendar for a while now after he was disqualified after winning a Truck Series race here in 2019. Would be a great story if he could get his first win of the season here, and he’ll be plenty motivated.
