Texas Rangers

The Texas Rangers will be in San Francisco for game two of an interleague series with the Giants on Saturday before game three gets underway Sunday. Texas was able to come away with a 7-6 win in the series opener Friday night. The win made their second in a row and puts them at 6-4 in their previous 10 games.

Right-hander Yovani Gallardo will take the mound on Sunday for the Rangers. He enters the game with a 7-2 record, 6.06 ERA and has 39 strikeouts on the year. Gallardo is 5-1 in his previous six starts.

One thing is for sure, he will need as much help as possible form an offense that has faced issues in the batter’s box as of late. Texas has only been able to knock in 15 runs in their previous five games.

It’s hard to win games with a lack of production with the wood, regardless of who the pitcher is.

San Francisco Giants

The Giants haven’t looked much better than the Rangers when it comes to swinging the bats. They have been held to just 17 runs in their previous five games, leading them to a 3-7 record in their previous 10.

While it’s highly doubtful San Francisco will be playing after the regular season, in my opinion, they are currently nine games back in the National League Wildcard chase. Coming away with wins both Saturday and Sunday could be the start of something the Giants need to get the season back on track in its last quarter.

Lefty Derek Holland will be on the mound for the home team, looking to improve his 6-8 record. He brings a 3.75 ERA and has an impressive 137 strikeouts so far this season. If he can stay hot into the fifth or sixth inning, I see no reason why the Giants can’t come away with the win at home.
