The stakes are considerably higher for Arizona.
The D-backs are one game behind Philadelphia for the final NL Wild Card spot with two games remaining, and they own the tiebreaker. San Diego has already clinched a postseason berth and is now playing for Wild Card seeding and home-field advantage.
Arizona has won six straight, and suddenly that Wild Card door isn’t quite closed.
Friday belonged to the D-backs from the first pitch. Lars Nootbaar homered immediately, Nolan Arenado added his 30th of the season and Geraldo Perdomo drove in four as Arizona rolled.

Arizona’s bats are rolling, and a bullpen game adds another variable to a very reachable total.
The D-backs placed Corbin Burnes on the IL and will piece Saturday together with their bullpen. Pfaadt’s 7.2 innings Friday kept those arms fresh, but asking four or five relievers to keep San Diego quiet all night is still a different assignment.
