Cardinals vs. Dodgers Gameday
The St. Louis Cardinals enter Thursday night’s series finale with plenty of momentum after taking the first two games from the Los Angeles Dodgers. St. Louis followed Tuesday’s 13-8 victory with an 8-6 win in 10 innings Wednesday, while the Dodgers remain on top of the NL West.
The Cardinals have controlled the season series, winning four of five games against Los Angeles. St. Louis hit five home runs in Tuesday’s 13-8 victory before rallying from a 5-0 deficit to win Wednesday night. The Cardinals scored three runs in the 10th inning to finish that comeback.
St. Louis has already taken this series, and now the Cardinals get a shot at the sweep.
Los Angeles has dropped consecutive games at home but remains one of baseball’s strongest teams. The Dodgers enter the finale at 82-57 and have played well throughout the season at UNIQLO Field at Dodger Stadium. They now turn to Tarik Skubal looking to avoid being swept by St. Louis.

St. Louis Cardinals vs. Los Angeles Dodgers Odds & Last 5
The Dodgers remain significant favorites despite losing the first two games of this series. Los Angeles sits at -297 on the moneyline, while St. Louis comes back at +244. The runline has the Dodgers -1.5 at -134 and the Cardinals +1.5 at +111.
St. Louis enters the finale at 70-70 after climbing back to .500 with Wednesday’s comeback victory. The Cardinals have won consecutive games against the Dodgers after entering the series in a difficult stretch. Their offense has produced 21 runs through the first two games in Los Angeles.
The Dodgers are now 82-57 after dropping the first two games of the series. Wednesday’s loss was particularly frustrating after Los Angeles built a 5-0 advantage behind Yoshinobu Yamamoto. The Cardinals erased that lead before eventually winning 8-6 in 10 innings.
Dodgers Stats
The Dodgers remain one of the most productive offensive teams in baseball. Los Angeles has consistently produced runs with a deep lineup built around Shohei Ohtani, Freddie Freeman, Mookie Betts and several other dangerous bats. That lineup helped the Dodgers reach 82 victories while maintaining control of the NL West.
Los Angeles also brings plenty of pitching quality into the stretch run. The rotation features multiple high-end arms, and the addition of Tarik Skubal gave the Dodgers another elite starter for their postseason push. Skubal gets the baseball Thursday with Los Angeles trying to stop a two-game slide.
Ohtani remains the centerpiece of the Dodgers’ lineup, while Freeman and Betts continue to provide experienced production around him. Freeman homered in the first inning Wednesday, snapping a lengthy home run drought. Betts also went deep as Los Angeles built its early advantage.
The Dodgers had 11 hits Wednesday but failed to put the Cardinals away after taking a five-run lead. St. Louis scored eight runs from the sixth inning forward to completely change the game. Los Angeles now needs a stronger finish if it wants to avoid a three-game sweep at home.

Cardinals Stats
The Cardinals enter Thursday at 70-70 after winning the first two games of this series. St. Louis has scored 21 runs against Los Angeles across those victories, including a five-home run performance Tuesday. The Cardinals then showed a different side Wednesday by rallying from five runs down.
Alec Burleson continues to provide steady production with a .285 batting average and 21 home runs. Jordan Walker has supplied even more power with 28 homers while batting .288, giving St. Louis another dangerous bat in the middle of the lineup. JJ Wetherholt has added 17 home runs and 88 runs scored.
Thomas Saggese played a major role in Wednesday’s comeback. He hit a two-run homer in the sixth inning and delivered an RBI single during the three-run 10th. Joshua Báez followed with a two-run double that gave the Cardinals the separation they needed.
St. Louis has now won four of five meetings against Los Angeles this season. The Cardinals enter the finale back at .500 and with an opportunity to complete a road sweep against the NL West leaders. Their offense has already shown it can create problems for the Dodgers in several different ways.
We want to hear from you below! Comments are welcome! Give us your picks for this St. Louis Cardinals vs. Los Angeles Dodgers MLB matchup.
Cardinals vs. Dodgers Pitching Matchup
Quinn Mathews is scheduled to start for the St. Louis Cardinals in Thursday’s series finale. The left-hander enters with a 1-2 record, 5.03 ERA and 20 strikeouts. Mathews has experienced some difficult stretches early in his major league career, but he gets another opportunity against one of baseball’s deepest lineups.
Mathews will need to limit traffic against a Dodgers offense capable of creating damage quickly. His 5.03 ERA reflects some inconsistency, while the matchup against Ohtani, Freeman and Betts gives him very little margin for mistakes. St. Louis would gladly take enough competitive innings to give its bullpen another chance to protect a lead.
Tarik Skubal gets the start for Los Angeles with an 8-7 record and 2.84 ERA. The left-hander has recorded 153 strikeouts while pitching to a 0.94 WHIP, giving the Dodgers a significant advantage on paper in the starting matchup. He takes the mound with Los Angeles needing a win to avoid the sweep.
Skubal’s combination of strikeouts, control and ability to limit baserunners makes him a difficult matchup for a Cardinals lineup that has been hot during this series. St. Louis has already scored 21 runs in two games, but Thursday presents a completely different challenge against the Dodgers left-hander. The pitching matchup clearly favors Los Angeles, while the Cardinals bring the hotter lineup into the finale.
St. Louis Cardinals vs. Los Angeles Dodgers bottom line: St. Louis has taken four of five from Los Angeles this season and enters the finale with consecutive road wins, while the NL West-leading Dodgers turn to Tarik Skubal trying to stop the Cardinals from completing a three-game sweep.

Cardinals Dodgers Free Pick: Over 7.5
Here is my Cardinals Dodgers free pick: Two straight games in this series have turned into scoring parties, and I’m not jumping off that train yet. Give me the Over again.
St. Louis won 13-8 Tuesday and followed it with an 8-6 extra-inning victory Wednesday. That’s 35 combined runs through the first 2 games of this series, with the Cardinals doing plenty of damage.
The pitching matchup offers some pushback. Tarik Skubal owns a 2.84 ERA for Los Angeles, while St. Louis left-hander Quinn Mathews enters at 1-2 with a 5.03 ERA. Skubal is the obvious concern.
The Dodgers have scored 14 runs themselves in this series, giving the Over some help from both sides.
The Cardinals have suddenly found some thunder, blasting 5 homers Tuesday before scoring 8 more runs Wednesday. Additionally, Los Angeles has dropped 6 of its last 8 games, and the pitching staff hasn’t completely shut the door.
This one doesn’t need another 13-8 circus. A 5-3 or 6-2 type of game gets us where we need to go.
However, Skubal makes this less comfortable than the first 2 games suggest, so I’m counting on Mathews and the Cardinals bullpen to help the scoring along. That works for me.
I’ll ride the series momentum and play the Over 7.5 in Cardinals-Dodgers.
