San Francisco Giants
The Giants have played some good baseball to open up the season. They have pretty much done what you could have asked of them through the first 20+ games.
I would not say they have been flashy but that is not who they are. San Francisco is just a team that goes out there, gives good at-bats, gets quality starting pitching, and does a lot of winning. It is hard to argue with that formula.
In terms of talent, they do not have as much of it as their rivals in the West as the Dodgers or Padres do, but they still have a very balanced and well-managed ball club that can certainly compete with the top dogs in that division. It will be fun to watch them compete the whole season long.
Coming into this game, the Giants have a record of 20-13 and are 3rd in the NL West. Los Angeles leads them by half a game at the moment with a record of 20-12. As expected, that division is a very tight one and will be so for the remainder of the year.
After the offense looked good for them in the win on Friday, they got totally blanked by the Cardinals 4-0 on Saturday. It is one thing for your offense to be held in check but a team like San Francisco really should not be getting shut out.
With the first two games of the series being split, this would be a big win for the Giants on Sunday to win the series over a good NL team on the road. Although not easy, they should like their chances here.
Jakob Junis went 5.2 innings and allowed 2 earned runs in their loss on Saturday. He gave his team a chance to win but clearly did not get any run support.
Now, Carlos Rodon will get the ball in his finale. He has been everything as advertised thus far and will look to carry that over into the finale.
St. Louis Cardinals
It has not been a decent season for the Cardinals but it has been nothing all that impressive. I would expect them to get stronger as the year goes on but of course, there is no guarantee of that.
One word to describe them thus far would not be consistent. They have shown glimpses of being a good team but it has been too much up-and-down play.
In an NL that is loaded, this team still has some work to do if they want to be in that top category. Improvements on both sides of the field would be necessary in order for that to become a reality.
Right now, St. Louis has a record of 18-15 and trails the Brewers by 2.5 games. Unless things change dramatically, those will likely be the top two teams in the NL Central for the remainder of the season.
Based on how well the Brewers have played and likely will continue to play, it is going to be very tricky for them to win the division. I am not saying it cannot happen but I would not count on it.
After a nice 4-0 win in game 2, the Cards will look to have similar success on Sunday. Being able to get this series victory over the Giants would be a big statement for this group and should spark some more confidence in them.
Dakota Hudson went 5 innings and did not allow an earned run in their last win. He was very sharp against a tough lineup and the bullpen did their job once he left.
Adam Wainwright gets the ball in this one and will have his hands full for sure. He is not the same guy he once was but has still been effective for the most part out there.
MLB Baseball Betting Trends:
- The Giants are 16-5 in their last 21 Sunday games.
- The Giants are 39-14 in their last 53 games as a road favorite.
- The Cardinals are 4-1 in their last 5 home games vs. a left-handed starter.
- The Cardinals are 2-5 in their last 7 overall.
San Francisco Giants vs. St. Louis Cardinals MLB Prediction:
The Giants did not look very good in their last one but I do not see that carrying over into this one. I look for them to get back on track.
San Francisco has the pitching advantage with Rodon on the mound. He has been excellent thus far and there is certainly reason to believe he can keep that up here.
Wainwright might not get crushed here but I do feel the Giants will be able to do enough against him when all is said and done.
Give me the Giants on the run line here.
