The Mets and Marlins pick up game 2 of their 3 games set on Wednesday after the Mets came away with a 9 – 4 win on Tuesday night.
Were you watching the game? Holy hysterical Batman, did you all see the huge box of Cinnamon Toast Crunch sitting behind home plate in the 2nd inning… Calling balls and strikes too? I Tweeted about it lol

No, I didn’t actually pee my pants, man, but that was some funny stuff watching it happen live on SNYtv
NY Mets
The Polar Bear brought the lumber early and late yesterday as he picked up HR #31 & 32 of the season. The first came in the top of the 1st inning to make it 2 – 0 Mets. Cabrera walked the leadoff man in wild fashion and he almost pegged Lindor with two pitches inside before he grounded into a 4 – 6 force. Pete Alonso bashed his 100th career home run two pitches later and he only needed 347 games to nail the century mark in bombs. Ryan Howard holds the MLB record of the quickest to 100 round-trippers playing only 325 games before hitting the century mark. Alonso added a 2nd HR in the 9th inning to make it 101 homers in his career, and that made the game 9 – 4 securing a Mets win.
Carrasco got off to another rough start on Tuesday night as his ERA in the 1st inning is over 15.1 this season. The Marlins started the 1st inning off with 3 straight hits off Carrasco and scored to make it 2 – 1 right away. Thus far, Carrasco has allowed 13 of his 22 overall runs in the opening stanza. Joe Panik almost made it 4 – 2 with a blast to the wall that was chased down by Pillar. Carrasco eventually loaded the bases in the 1st but got out of it with only 1 ER.
Jeff McNeil? Oh, he stinks in case you didn’t know. It is amazing to me how some people keep their jobs and him being a baseball player is hysterical! There is no way that dude will have a job for much longer when you simply have nothing to contribute.
Looking for more Jacob deGrom updates? Mets President Sandy Alderson posted an update on the NY Mets team page today about deGrom’s partially torn UCL … Click to read!
Basically, Alderson is stating that the injury is healing on its own and that all the evaluations recently show good structural signs in his elbow. Will Jacob make it back before the end of the regular season? The only quote Alderson gave addressing that question today was, “I think that’s still very much up in the air.” deGrom is scheduled to come off the DL on September 13, but that is still subject to change.
Additionally, Noah Syndergaard finished his 10th day of a 10-day covid quarantine on Tuesday. Thor is also a possibility to return for any type of post-season run should the Mets stretch the season that far. His regular-season status is dependant on how his starts go with the Brooklyn Cyclones. Syndergaard was supposed to start on August 29 for Brooklyn but Covid issues set his timeline back 10 days, at least.
Rich Hill gets the nod for the Mets on Wednesday with his 0 – 2 record and ERA just under 4. Hill is 6 – 6 this season overall and is always scary being that he gets so many flyball outs. Pitching to contact is not exactly working for him anymore and he has not found a win since June 23.
Miami Marlins
I mentioned in yesterday’s preview that Miguel Rojas left Sunday’s game and he indeed was left out of the Tuesday lineup as expected. Trapezius soreness is apparently the issue at hand and his status for Wednesday will be a game-time decision.
Edward Cabrera picked up his first hit with the Marlins in the 2nd inning (double) and it tied the game at 2 – 2. It was his first big league hit, his first extra-base hit, and his first RBI all in one fell swoop. In fact, It was his first hit as a pro as he was 0 – 7 down in the minors before being called up. On the other hand, the pitching didn’t seem to be on his mind enough as he continues to struggle to find the strike zone.
It was tied 2 – 2 going to the top of the 3rd inning. Cabrera has a steaming fastball that hit 99 on the gun and all he threw was sliders and change-ups time and again. Through his 65 pitches on the night, Cabrera threw only 20 fastballs, and then the wildness took over. Conforto and Baez were both plunked after three consecutive walks loaded the bases in the 3rd inning and that was all Mattingly could take before he pulled the youngster from the game at down 4 – 2.
The Marlins are still a dangerous team although they really only seem to play well at home, as I mentioned yesterday. Three of the Fish’s big bats are out of the lineup and we will see if Rojas gets back to the field on Wednesday although it does not look like that will happen. A neck injury of his nature might take at least this week to start feeling better, so he might be out for longer than expected.
The Marlins committed 3 errors on Tuesday night and they basically have an entire rookie outfield. All 3 errors happened on the infield, however, and each of them was a costly mistake that led to runs being scored. In all, 5 of the 9 total runs allowed were unearned due to fielding mistakes by the Marlins on Tuesday.
Obviously, youth is all over Don Mattingly’s roster to build on, but it will still take a few big moves to see something big happen in Miami anytime soon.
I honestly thought Sandy Alcantara would be among the Marlin players on the move during the trade talks. He is the ace of this staff but he certainly hasn’t gotten much run support in 2021. Alcantara has made one start against the Mets this season and it was just last week. He lost a 4 – 3 game going 6 1/3 with 6 K and no BB only giving up 8 hits.

Free New York Mets vs. Miami Marlins MLB Prediction:
I like the Fish in this spot. The Mets will struggle with Alcantara again and I think the Fish at home can be scary good.
