Dallas Keuchel looks to improve on his miserable season as he takes on the Baltimore Orioles and their potent offense. With 40 games left, both teams are eager to make a dangerous postseason run.
Houston Astros
The Astros are desperate to stay alive in the American League Wild Card race as they trail the Orioles by 5.5 games for the final playoff spot. Houston surprised everyone in the majors last season but quickly came back down to Earth this year.
A major reason for the Astros’ success last year and their mediocrity this year is because of Dallas Keuchel.
Last year’s American League Cy Young winner is just 7-12 with a 4.76 ERA and has a bloated 5.74 ERA away from Minute Maid Park.
He’ll toe the rubber against the Orioles in this one, looking to rebound from his last road start where he was shelled for seven earned runs in an 11-0 drubbing to the Tigers.
Keuchel just hasn’t been the same this year and it’s hindered the Astros from being even higher in the standings.
Baltimore Orioles
The Orioles currently hold the final Wild Card spot in the American League, but they’re just 1.5 games behind the first-place Blue Jays for the division lead.
Led by the bats of Manny Machado, Mark Trumbo and company, Baltimore ranks in the top-five in slugging, OPS, and home runs.
And at 40-20, the Orioles possess one of the best home records in the American League.
The pitching has been a problem for the mighty Orioles this year, despite ace Chris Tillman having 15 wins.
The O’s are hoping the rest of their staff can get it together in time for a playoff push, including Sunday’s starter Yovani Gallardo.
The veteran Gallardo is 4-4 with a 5.18 ERA but has performed much better at home. When he pitches at Camden Yards, Gallardo has a 3.66 ERA compared to a 6.14 ERA on the road.

On the other hand, Gallardo performs much better at home for the Orioles, a team that owns one of the best home records in the majors. There is great value here with the Orioles, and I think they’ll walk away victorious.
